Supergirl Movie Budget Revealed In New DCU Report & If It Cost More Than Superman

The next DC Universe movie coming to theaters will be Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock as the iconic character. Following a brief appearance in Superman, Kara Zor-El will take center stage in her own full-length adventure in 2026 as part of the DCU’s first chapter, “Gods and Monsters.”

A new report from Forbes revealed the budget for the upcoming Supergirl movie: $200 million. For comparison, the recent Superman film starring David Corenswet cost $225 million to produce after accounting for tax benefits and incentives. That film, released in 2025 by James Gunn, earned $616 million at the box office, making it the year’s highest-grossing superhero movie.

I’m so excited about the new Supergirl movie! It’s directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, and it’s actually based on the fantastic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. I heard the main filming wrapped up back on May 10th, 2025, which means we’re one step closer to seeing it!

In a recent interview with Forbes, actress Melissa Benoist shared her initial reaction to being cast as Supergirl. She admitted to feeling overwhelmed and doubtful, explaining, “I wondered what I’d gotten myself into. I honestly questioned if I could pull it off. I even called the director and told him I didn’t know how to become that character – I just felt like myself.”

The rising star explained that she ultimately learned to trust her own instincts to overcome challenges. She also shared her belief that everything happens at the right moment, regardless of whether we feel prepared for it.

In 2026, DC Studios has more planned than just The Girl of Steel. Clayface is scheduled to premiere on September 11th. Also in development is Man of Tomorrow, which will start filming next year and continue the story from Superman.

Supergirl will be released in theaters on June 26, 2026.
