Nintendo and Illumination have just dropped the final trailer for “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” and announced three new actors joining the cast, including Donald Glover. The movie is scheduled to come out on April 1, 2026.
Okay, so as you probably know, Mario and Luigi already saved Princess Peach from Bowser once. But now, Bowser’s got a son, Bowser Jr., and he’s determined to break his dad out of wherever he’s being held and basically carry on the family business of, well, being bad. The synopsis says me and the guys – Mario and Luigi, of course – are going on a whole intergalactic road trip with some familiar faces and new friends to stop this kid from succeeding. Sounds like a wild ride!

Who has joined the cast of The Super Mario Galaxy movie?
This week’s Nintendo Direct revealed some exciting casting choices for the upcoming Super Mario movie. Donald Glover will voice Yoshi, while Luis Guzmán will play the villain Wart, who originally appeared in the 1987 game Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic and later in Super Mario Bros. 2. Issa Rae will also star as Honey Queen.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s voice cast features Chris Pratt as Mario, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Brie Larson as Rosalina, Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr., and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek, along with three new additions to the team.
Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic directed the film. Matthew Fogel wrote the screenplay, and Chris Meledandri of Illumination and Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo produced it. Brian Tyler composed the music.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was a huge success, earning around $1.36 billion worldwide. This made it the first movie based on a video game to reach over a billion dollars at the box office, making it the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time. For a while, it was also the third-highest-grossing animated film ever, but it now ranks sixth, behind films like Ne Zha 2, Zootopia 2, Inside Out 2, The Lion King, and Frozen II. Currently, it’s the 19th highest-grossing movie of all time when not accounting for inflation.
