The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is bringing the world of Nintendo’s popular video game to the big screen again. This new animated film will feature many familiar Nintendo characters and send Chris Pratt’s Mario on an intergalactic adventure when the villainous Bowser Jr. appears.
The new Mario movie will bring back many of the beloved characters from the first film, but it’s also promising some exciting new additions. Fans can look forward to seeing characters like Yoshi and Birdo, and there’s even speculation that Wario and Waluigi might make an appearance, all joining the adventure.
I’m so excited for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie! It’s coming to theaters on April 1st, and it’s a collaboration between Illumination, Universal, and Nintendo. I’m really happy to hear that Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are directing again, and the voice cast sounds amazing – Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, and Jack Black are all going to be in it!
Every Nintendo Character Confirmed for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Mario

Chris Pratt voices Mario in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The famous video game character started as a simple plumber in New York, but after discovering the magical Mushroom Kingdom, he became a hero tasked with saving it. The next movie will take Mario on a cosmic adventure, as a new danger threatens the entire universe.
Luigi

Charlie Day returns as Luigi, Mario’s slightly taller and often frightened brother, in the new movie. Though he’s easily scared, Luigi has always been a hero, and he teamed up with Mario in the first film to gain the power of the Super Star. Now, both brothers will be central figures in Galaxy, working as heroes to protect the Mushroom Kingdom.
Peach

Anya Taylor-Joy’s Princess Peach is a far cry from the typical helpless princess. In this version of the story, she’s a brave fighter who actually guides Mario through the strange world of the Mushroom Kingdom. The new movie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, gives Peach her own exciting adventure, complete with the fast-paced, outer-space action the series is known for.
Bowser

In The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Bowser (Jack Black) failed in his attempt to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom and marry Princess Peach. Now, he’s been reduced in size and is imprisoned within Peach’s Castle. So far, details about Bowser’s role in the new movie are limited, except that his son, Bowser Jr., will attempt to rescue him.
Toad

Keegan-Michael Key returns as Toad, Princess Peach’s loyal companion and a key member of her team. First introduced in the original film, Toad bravely fights alongside Peach against Bowser’s army. In the upcoming sequel, he appears to be reprising his role as the adventurous Captain Toad, traveling with Peach once more.
Rosalina

Brie Larson will be joining the cast of The Super Mario Bros. Movie as Princess Rosalina, a popular character first seen in the Super Mario Galaxy video game. Rosalina is the queen of the Lumas, and she oversees a space station that runs on the power of living stars.
Bowser Jr.

The new movie will feature Bowser Jr. as its main villain, or at least that’s what we’ve seen so far. Benny Safdie, known for his role in Oppenheimer, provides the voice for the character. Bowser Jr., the son of Bowser, has been heavily featured in trailers and is a major draw for the sequel. Also known as Kid Koopa, he’s recognizable by his buck teeth and unique vehicle—a clown car transformed into a battleship—and will challenge Mario and Luigi as he tries to rescue his father.
Yoshi

At the end of the first Mario movie, fans got a surprise peek at Yoshi, Mario’s dinosaur companion. He emerged from an egg in the New York sewers. Now, it’s confirmed that Yoshi will be a major character in the Mario Galaxy Movie, joining Mario and Luigi on their adventure through space.
Birdo

Birdo, the dinosaur who shoots eggs, will appear in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Fans first caught a glimpse of her in the movie’s “Yoshi First Look” trailer. She’s been a part of the Mario series for many years, originally appearing as a boss in Super Mario Bros. 2.
Kamek

Kamek, who was a supporting villain in the first movie, returns in the sequel with more mischievous plans. Kevin Michael Richardson is again voicing the character, and a recent clip shows him getting playfully eaten by Yoshi!
Mouser

Mouser, a popular boss character from Mario Bros. 2, is also appearing in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Fans spotted him in the casino scene, standing with Princess Peach and adjusting his sunglasses – a move he’s known for.
Lumas

A Mario Galaxy Movie wouldn’t have been complete without the Lumas. These starry creatures first appeared in the Mario Galaxy games, where they lived in space and were close friends with Princess Rosalina. We actually got a quick glimpse of one in the first movie, stuck in Bowser’s dungeon with Luigi.
Tostarenans

Tostarenans are the people who live in the Sand Kingdom in the video game Super Mario Odyssey. These characters, who are designed with skulls like those seen in Day of the Dead celebrations, have appeared in trailers for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, suggesting that Mario and Luigi will visit the Sand Kingdom in the film.
Bloopers

Fans spotted the familiar Bloopers – ink-shooting squid enemies from the Mario series – in a brief scene from the Super Mario Bros. Movie trailer. These creatures have been appearing in Mario games since the very beginning, all the way back to the original Super Mario Bros., and the teaser seems to show them in a water setting reminiscent of Drip Drop Galaxy from Super Mario Galaxy.
Ninjis

I was so excited to see Ninjis confirmed for the new Super Mario movie! As a fan of Super Mario Bros. 2, I remember them being tough enemies, and it’s awesome they’re including them. I’ve already spotted them in the trailers battling Princess Peach – they look just like I remember, with that classic black suit and red buttons!
Buzzy Beetles

I was so excited to hear the Blue Shell Koopa Troopas – or Buzzy Beetles, as they’re properly called – are going to be in the new movie! Apparently, you’ll first see them crawling around in the pipes of the Sand Kingdom, which is where Mario and Luigi meet Yoshi. What’s cool about them is they’re different from most Koopas; they mostly hide inside their shells, so you don’t see much of their bodies. It’s a neat design choice that makes them stand out!
Cheep Cheeps

The Cheep Cheep, a familiar enemy from the Mario Bros. games, appears in promotional material for The Super Mario Bros. Movie. In one trailer, Luigi is shown diving into a Cheep Cheep, flattening its eyes and puffy lips.
Lakitus

Lakitus are famous in the Mario games for floating on clouds and dropping spiny red shells onto players. These creatures, who serve Bowser, appeared in the first trailer for the upcoming movie, doing just that during an exciting scene with the main characters.
T-Rex

It might seem surprising to see a realistic-looking T-Rex in promotions for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, but the dinosaur actually has a history with the Mario games. It previously appeared in Super Mario Odyssey where Mario could capture and control it as part of the gameplay in the Cascade Kingdom.
Megaleg

Megaleg is one of the most memorable bosses in the Mario Galaxy games, right up there with Bowser and Bowser Jr. This robotic enemy with long legs really showed off the games’ innovative gravity-defying gameplay, as players fought on different parts of its body. Megaleg also made a brief appearance in the first teaser trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, looming over Princess Rosalina.
Goomba

Goombas, famously known as the original enemies in the Mario games, are returning for The Mario Galaxy Movie. These mushroom-shaped creatures were the very first challenge players faced in Super Mario Bros., solidifying their place as a classic part of the Mario universe.
Octoomba

I always thought the Octoomba was a really cool enemy introduced in the Mario Galaxy games! They’re basically like Goombas, but way more interesting. Instead of just walking towards you, they have a little lantern hanging from their head and can actually shoot rocks with their mouth! I remember first seeing them causing trouble in the Yoshi First Look trailer, alongside a bunch of other classic Mario baddies. It was a great first impression!
Octoguy

Octoguys closely resemble Octoomba, but they have pink skin and noticeably large cheeks. These enemies are commonly found in groups throughout the Mario Galaxy planets, making them simple opponents for Mario to defeat with a spin-dash.
Coin Coffer

The Coin Coffer enemy from the Mario games will be featured in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. These green, frog-like creatures are famous for shooting coins out as they’re chased, and for bursting into a heap of coins when you defeat them.
Bob-Omb

The Bob-omb is one of Mario’s most dangerous enemies. As the name suggests, it’s a walking bomb that roams the Mushroom Kingdom. These enemies have very short fuses and will explode with just a small touch or bump from Mario or another enemy.
Spike

Spikes are enemies in the Mario games, part of the Koopa family. They’re known for shooting spiked balls out of their mouths, which roll forward as an attack.
Koopa Troopa

Koopa Troopas are the most common enemies in the Koopa family and form the bulk of Bowser’s army. These green-shelled turtles appear in nearly every Mario game. They’re defeated with two hits: the first retracts them into their shell, and the second sends them flying off the screen.
Koopa Paratroopa

Paratroopas, the flying version of Koopa Troopas, are back in The Super Mario Bros. Movie as members of Bowser’s forces. First appearing in the original Super Mario Bros. game, these enemies have long been a nuisance to Mario thanks to their ability to fly.
Sledge Bro

Sledge Bros are similar to Hammer Bros – the Koopa enemies who wear shells and helmets and throw hammers – but much bigger. They’re essentially oversized versions, appearing rounder and fuller, and they also enjoy throwing things at Mario.
Shy Guy

The Mario Galaxy Movie features several different types of Shy Guys, especially on the casino planet where Peach and Toad explore. These classic enemies have received a stylish makeover for the film, now sporting outfits in blue, orange, and red.
Snifit

Shy Guys first appeared in the original Super Mario Bros. Movie, and now Snifits will have their chance to shine in the sequel. Both enemies originally debuted in Super Mario Bros. 2; Snifits are similar to Shy Guys, wearing masks and uniquely able to fire cannonballs from their mouths.
Piranha Plant

The Piranha Plant, a classic enemy from the Super Mario series, is back in Mario’s latest adventure. This plant with teeth has been a key part of Mario’s history since the very beginning – appearing in the original Super Mario Bros., featuring a memorable tune in Super Mario 64, and even becoming a playable fighter in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Penguin

The Penguins, who were briefly seen at the beginning of the first Super Mario Bros. Movie, are coming from Cool, Cool Mountain. They played a significant part in multiple galaxies in Super Mario Galaxy, suggesting they might have a big role to play in the upcoming game.
Star Bunny

Players first meet Star Bunnies early in Super Mario Galaxy, so it’s not surprising to see them in the movie. In the game, these adorable creatures teach Mario how the game works after he’s launched into space, and they could play a similar role in the film – guiding him and explaining things along the way.
Pianta

The world first met the Piantas in the game Super Mario Sunshine, and now they’re coming to the big screen on April 1st! The upcoming movie draws inspiration from several popular Mario games, like Galaxy, Odyssey, and Wonder, so fans are hoping Sunshine will be featured too.
Whittle

The Whittles, a group of wooden creatures first seen in Super Mario Galaxy 2, are heading to the big screen. In the game, they challenged Mario to a daring slide test, so we might see a similar challenge for the Mario Bros. in the new movie.
Conkdor

Conkdors are relatively new characters in the Mario universe, first appearing in Super Mario 3D World. They recently became playable racers in Mario Kart World. Because they seem so laid-back, they’ll probably be seen relaxing like the Piantas.
Ukiki

A Ukiki monkey was recently caught on camera stealing a backpack from Toad. This mischievous monkey is famous among longtime players for previously stealing Mario’s hat in Super Mario 64, so this latest incident isn’t surprising.
Chargin’ Chuck

Chargin’ Chucks are Koopa Troopas wearing football gear, and they first showed up in Super Mario World on the Super Nintendo. When they get going, they’re really tough to stop, so Mario and his friends need to be careful!
Chain Chomp

A new teaser shows a Chain Chomp, a tough enemy from the Mario games, causing trouble in the Mushroom Kingdom. However, Yoshi quickly stops the chaos by eating it!
Spiny

Spinies are similar to Buzzy Beetles, but they’re smaller turtles with red, spiky shells, unlike the smooth, dark blue shells of other Koopa Troopas. Like Buzzy Beetles, they can also appear when Lakitu throws them down from the clouds.
