Super Mario Galaxy Movie adds Glen Powell in surprise move

Just days before the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Glen Powell, known for his role in Twisters, has joined the film’s already impressive cast.

Powell revealed the news on Instagram with a fun video of himself playfully running through a movie theater to the tune of the Mario theme song. He was dressed as Fox McCloud, the character he’s going to voice, and captioned the post with, “Born to Barrel Roll.”

It’s unexpected, especially with the movie coming out so soon. However, it makes sense considering how popular Powell has become in recent years.

Who is Glen Powell’s Super Mario Galaxy Movie character?

In The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Chris Pratt will be the voice of Fox McCloud, the hero of Nintendo’s Star Fox games. Fox McCloud is also a playable character in the popular Super Smash Bros. series.

This is Powell’s second film this year, following his appearance in How to Make a Killing. He’s also been cast in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming movie, The Great Beyond, where he’ll act alongside Jenna Ortega and Emma Mackey.

Glen Powell is famous for his work in movies like Top Gun: Maverick, Hit Man, Anyone but You, and Twisters. He’ll also be starring in a remake of The Running Man in 2025, and in the first season of the show Chad Powers, which he created with Michael Waldron.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is a follow-up to the 2023 hit, The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The original cast returns, including Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, and Keegan-Michael Key.

The upcoming film will draw inspiration from the Super Mario Galaxy games and feature new cast members including Brie Larson, Donald Glover, and Benny Safdie.

I’m so excited for the new movie, which comes out on Wednesday, April 1st! It’s awesome that Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are back directing, and Matthew Fogel did the writing – I loved his work on the first one!
