The announcement of Super Bomberman Collection came during a somewhat disappointing Nintendo Partner Showcase. Despite that, it was one of the few announcements that generated excitement during the stream. I’m not very familiar with the Bomberman series; I only played Super Bomberman R when the Nintendo Switch first launched and haven’t experienced any other games in the franchise.
I wasn’t sure what all the fuss about Super Bomberman was before I got to play the Super Bomberman Collection. Now, after a week with it, I completely understand the hype! I’m hooked, and I think you will be too.
Super Bomberman Collection is Full of Hidden Gems
The Super Bomberman games are played from a top-down perspective, where players move through maze-like levels and use bombs to defeat enemies before time runs out. Although not the original Bomberman title, Super Bomberman stood out for its impressive graphics on the Super Nintendo.
When I review collections of games, I always try to play each one thoroughly. But I was surprised by how quickly this game captivated me. Even now, in 2026, it’s still incredibly engaging – figuring out how to create your next film is a really compelling puzzle.
The new rewind feature in Super Bomberman is a great addition, letting players undo mistakes. The games that follow are even better, with increasingly inventive levels and gameplay. Plus, you also get the original two Bomberman games as a welcome extra!
Each game in the collection also has its own set of challenging boss battles. The difficulty increases smoothly, making these modes enjoyable. While online play is available, it feels a bit restricted. These games are really best played with friends and family on the same couch, and a few improvements could have made Super Bomberman Collection even better.
The Design of Super Bomberman Collection is Cute and Thoughtful
One of the best parts of Super Bomberman Collection is how much care was put into preserving its history. Players can look at original game boxes and even 3D models of the game cartridges themselves, which is a fun detail for long-time fans. It might even be a bit strange for newer players who have never seen a cartridge before!
The game also includes BombRadio, a great collection of music. Players can build their own playlists, highlighting the fantastic music throughout the series. A large art gallery is included as well. It all comes together as a well-designed collection that feels like an engaging, playable museum.
Super Bomberman Collection Is the Perfect Way to Jump Into This Acclaimed Franchise
If you’re new to the Super Bomberman series, the Super Bomberman Collection is a fantastic introduction. It really highlights how enjoyable these games remain, offering plenty of fun across its seven included titles with very few slow moments.
The bonus content and nods to past games are fantastic. Everything feels naturally integrated into the experience, not just added as an afterthought. Konami successfully reviving Super Bomberman is a real triumph, and it’s hard not to enjoy, even if you haven’t played the series before.
Super Bomberman Collection is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC.
Just wanted to let you know I got to play Super Bomberman Collection on PlayStation 5 thanks to a review code from KONAMI. I’m excited to share my thoughts!
