Super Animal World Preview: Cute, Cuddly, and Slightly Disturbing

Super Animal Royale isn’t the newest battle royale, but it’s definitely one of the most adorable. While the game launched a few years ago, the developers have consistently added a lot of fresh content and experiences for players.

I had a chance to interview the developers and discuss these changes. They shared a lot of details about the new expansion and even gave us a sneak peek at what’s planned for the future of Super Animal World.

I had a chance to try out this expansion early, and despite a few problems, I enjoyed it. The big question now is whether it’s worth your time and effort.

A New Cozy World

Super Animal Royale is known for its battle modes, but the new Super Animal World update introduces a completely new experience. Instead of returning to a menu between matches, you’ll now be placed directly into a persistent world where you can explore and learn the layout of the game’s environments.

The game world is designed for relaxed exploration, so you can wander around without being attacked. You’ll be able to chat with characters and enjoy fun side activities like catching bugs, fishing, and racing in hamster balls.

You’re welcome to spend as much time as you want exploring the main hub area. However, some tasks will require you to play the battle royale mode. Keep that in mind when the expansion comes out! Most quests happen right in the hub world and will show you how everything works. Others will advance the story and reveal the darker themes behind the game’s colorful and chaotic world.

A Super Story

This new expansion adds a lot to the game, and its biggest strength is the compelling story – something not often found in this type of game. Every character feels alive, with unique dialogue that changes and evolves, making each conversation feel fresh and engaging instead of repetitive.

This isn’t limited to characters who give you quests or are part of the story. You can talk to every character you meet. See someone interesting? Go ahead and chat with them! They’ll usually share a bit about themselves and the world around you, often with a unique and sometimes humorous point of view.

Every character you meet will have a variety of things to say, with conversations that feel fresh and don’t just repeat the same lines over and over. Each chat will be a little different.

There’s a funny and slightly unsettling NPC in Super Sea Land who runs the collection area – they’re a fish! They constantly make jokes about being caught, playing on the irony of their situation. The dark humor doesn’t stop there, though. The game’s tutorial reveals a surprising and morbid detail about how characters survive each round – or rather, don’t survive. Be warned, it’s a bit of a spoiler!

Throughout the story, a cheerful, cartoonish style hides deeper, more serious themes, creating a fascinating world to experience. While the story is the main attraction, there are also fresh activities and secrets to uncover. And with three new things to do, you can enjoy yourself without needing to engage in difficult tasks.

Just Some Cozy Chaos

Similar to Animal Crossing, you’ll explore a central area where you can fish and catch bugs. You can then show off your catches to other players, proving your skill – or just good luck! Everything you collect will be displayed in a special collection once the main building is completed. This gives these activities a real purpose, beyond simply collecting items to sell.

If those options don’t appeal to you, there’s a new hamster ball racing mode – and it’s exactly what it sounds like! Players race around in giant hamster balls, similar to Mario Kart. It’s a fun and lighthearted way to take a break and enjoy some friendly competition. You’ll race on six different tracks located throughout the game’s world, and each track includes hidden shortcuts to make the races even more exciting.

I had a great time, but I’m looking forward to even more things to do. It seems like the foundation is set for future additions, which is good. This isn’t the end of development for Pixile Studios’ SAR – we can expect new updates every few months, hopefully.

Made For A Community

SAR isn’t a solitary experience – you’ll always be around other players. While you can venture off on your own, it’s more fun with friends! This whole update is designed with the community in mind, so everyone can enjoy it together.

This place really has something for everyone, which I thought was fantastic. Whether you’re checking out official and fan art at the Super Museum of Modern Art (SMOMA) or watching races at the official Hamster Ball Stadium, it’s designed to be a fun and engaging space where the community can connect and explore together.

If those options don’t appeal to you, they’ve also introduced hamster ball racing – it’s just like Mario Kart, but with people inside large, inflatable hamster balls!

This applies to more than just the game’s story and writing. We’ve completely redesigned the user interface to keep players focused on the action, not navigating menus. A new system called BananOS lets you access everything – the store, quests, and more – without returning to the main menu, making it much smoother and easier to stay immersed in the game.

This game is clearly made with a lot of passion, and it’s immediately obvious. It’s rare to see a game take on such a massive update to completely refresh the player experience. While the update includes a lot of extras like respawnable tanks, new animals, and skins, these feel secondary to the incredible amount of new dialogue – over 140,000 words! – and all the improvements to gameplay.

Super Animal World isn’t flawless, but this update is fantastic, especially how much freedom it gives you to play. If you’re new to the game, this is a great place to start – it’s the perfect introduction to the wild and chaotic world of Super Animals!
