Sundance Pulls ‘Twinless’ From Digital Platform After Major Online Leaks, Including Dylan O’Brien Sex Scenes

The comedic drama ‘Twinless,’ featuring Dylan O’Brien, has been removed from Sundance‘s streaming platform following the unauthorized release of explicit scenes and other content online. The disclosures occurred after ‘Twinless’ received the prestigious Audience Award at the festival on Friday.

The second film removed from Sundance’s platform this year is titled “Selena y Los Dinos,” a documentary focusing on Tejano singer Selena. This movie was taken down due to copyright issues, as it had been illegally distributed online. It was reported that fans were posting several musical performances from the documentary on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

Festival spokespeople remained silent about the issue at hand. A source close to the production of “Twinless” stated that the film was not pulled due solely to its steamy O’Brien scenes, but rather because of numerous plot revelations that spoil the movie. The movie is yet to find a distributor outside the festival. Director James Sweeney appeared unfazed by the incident on Friday, as he accepted his award, stating that at least the audience seemed to appreciate the pirated material. The majority of these clips have been flagged or taken down, the source revealed.

During social media discussions, festival-goers expressed frustration at missing out on viewing both “Twinless” and “Selena y Los Dinos” online. Despite being initially launched as a response to going remote during COVID, Sundance’s streaming service has persisted even after the pandemic subsided because of its popularity. However, sales agents have not always been supportive due to concerns about leaks and their preference for screenings in bustling cinemas where an excited audience can boost a film’s sale price. Over time, films with theatrical releases have seen piracy by fans become more common, but some industry figures believe this enthusiasm ultimately contributes to their financial success.

Actresses Aisling Franciosi, Lauren Graham, Tasha Smith, Chris Perfetti, François Arnaud, Susan Park, and Cree Cicchino complete the star-studded lineup in this movie production. Republic Pictures serves as the distributor for selling this film.
