Sundance Breakout ‘Together,’ Body Horror Film With Dave Franco and Alison Brie, Sells to Neon

The horror movie titled “Together,” starring Dave Franco and Alison Brie, was picked up by Neon following its premiere at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival.

The debut film directed by Michael Shanks attracted multiple studios in a competitive bidding process. Despite this, the deal wasn’t finalized immediately, taking several days to be sealed. A24 was among the contenders at one stage, along with other studios like Mubi. The exact sale price remains undisclosed, but it’s known that the bidding surpassed $10 million at a certain point in recent times, and some sources even suggested it reached as high as $15 million, potentially making it one of the largest deals ever made at Sundance Film Festival.

The movie focuses on a couple, Franco and Brie, who live together and decide to relocate to a secluded rural area with the intention of deepening their bond. However, their relationship takes a sinister turn due to an otherworldly influence, taking body horror to a new level. Interestingly, this film adds a layer of reality as Franco and Brie are actually married in real life.

On Sunday evening, the Eccles Center’s opening showed triggered a mix of shrieks, chuckles, and uneasy squirms as viewers found certain scenes particularly disturbing. Additionally, there were numerous rounds of applause for Shanks, Franco, and Brie at the conclusion. In the parking lot, moviegoers engaged in lively discussions about which scene gave them the biggest scare.

In our shared acting journey, it’s not the debut performance for Franco and me on screen; we’ve graced the silver screen together in “The Little Hours,” “The Disaster Artist,” “Horse Girl,” and “The Rental.” Interestingly, Brie took a step into screenwriting with “Horse Girl,” while Franco made his directorial bow with “The Rental.” Our most recent collaboration was the 2023 film, “Somebody I Used to Know,” which marked our first joint writing effort. In this romantic comedy, I had the privilege of starring under Franco’s direction.

Recently, Brie graced the screens of Peacock’s limited series “Apples Never Fall,” where she worked alongside Annette Bening, Sam Neill, and Jake Lacy. Upcoming, you can catch her in Amazon MGM’s “Masters of the Universe,” a long-awaited adaptation of the famous children’s television program.

More recently, Franco has been featured in the A24 film “Love Lies Bleeding,” alongside Kristen Stewart, which made its debut at Sundance in 2024. Additionally, he can be seen in the quirky comedy “Bubble & Squeak,” that premiered at the 2025 Sundance festival, sharing screen time with Sarah Goldberg, Matt Berry, and another actress named Sarah Goldberg as well.

Franco and Brie collaborated on “Together” with Picturestart, Tango, 1.21, and Princess Pictures as their production partners. The financing for the film came from Tango, Picturestart, and 30West. In the film’s distribution, WME served as the agents representing the filmmakers.
