‘Succession’ Creator Jesse Armstrong Sets HBO Movie About a Financial Crisis

“Succession” creator Jesse Armstrong has found his next project: an original movie for HBO Films.

The seven-time Emmy Award winner is joining forces with “Succession” executive producer, Frank Rich, for a new project. This project reportedly revolves around four friends who gather during a significant global financial catastrophe. According to EbMaster’s confirmation, this collaboration is underway and both Armstrong and Rich are bound by overall deals with HBO.

Currently, Armstrong is working on drafting the script, aiming for filming to commence towards the end of this year. The studio has begun reaching out to potential actors to confirm their schedules.

The hit TV series “Succession,” which concluded in 2022, is renowned as one of the greatest shows of the 21st century. Over four seasons, it portrayed the struggles of the fictional Roy family as they fought for power over their media empire. This captivating tale earned the show a total of 19 Emmy Awards, with three of those being for best drama series.

Sam Armstrong is primarily recognized for his contributions to television production. He jointly created the cherished British sitcom “Peep Show,” the dramedy “Fresh Meat,” and he also penned episodes for “Veep” and “Black Mirror.” However, it’s worth noting that Armstrong boasts an impressive list of film accomplishments as well. For instance, he was nominated for an Oscar for co-writing the 2009 film “In the Loop,” which featured Peter Capaldi, Tom Hollander, Gina McKee, and James Gandolfini. His latest venture involves adapting Ruben Östlund’s “Force Majeure” into the American dark comedy “Downhill,” starring Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
