Okay, so like with any awards show, there’s always something a little weird or confusing, right? At The Game Awards, it happened during the trailer for the new Street Fighter movie. Honestly, it was a bit of a mess – super loud and just… chaotic! It left me wondering what I’d even just seen.
Right after Geoff Keighley showed the Street Fighter trailer, the movie’s actors came onto the stage. Andrew Koji (playing Ryu), Andrew Schulz (Dan Hibiki), Callina Liang (Chun-Li), Cody Rhodes (Guile), David Dastmalchian (M. Bison), Jason Momoa (Blanka), Mel Jarnson (Cammy), Noah Centineo (Ken Masters), Olivier Richters (Zangief), Orville Peck (Vega), Rayna Vallandingham (Juli), Roman Reigns (Akuma), and Vidyut Jammwal (Dhalsim) all appeared and mostly just chatted without saying much of substance.
Okay, so things wrapped up filming on the Street Fighter movie a few weeks ago, according to Liang. It was pretty funny watching Jason Momoa playfully argue with Koji about how to say “Ryu” – he was a little wobbly on his feet, to be honest! They were actually there to give out the award for Best Ongoing Game, and No Man’s Sky ended up winning, which was awesome. Then, Schulz tried to get everyone hyped by asking who’d ever played No Man’s Sky. But things got really interesting when Schulz jokingly invited the cast of Mortal Kombat 2 on stage, trying to stir up that old rivalry – though they didn’t actually show up, sadly!
The Street Fighter characters briefly erupted in excited chatter, almost forgetting why they were there. Luckily, Koji quickly got them back on track just in time to present the Best Ongoing Game award. There was a moment of confusion from Centineo about the microphone before he announced Hello Games as the winner. The Hello Games team then came on stage, accepted their award, gave a speech, and left—everyone was included in the celebration.
After a brief, chaotic interruption lasting around five minutes, the performance returned to normal. It was strange, but not entirely unexpected. It reminded some people of the incident a few years ago when someone known as the “Bill Clinton kid” – Matan Even – ran onto the stage before being stopped by police. While this situation wasn’t the same, it was equally confusing and bizarre, much like the event from December 2022.
I just finished watching the livestream and wow, there were so many big announcements! I’ve saved the post because there was a ton of cool stuff revealed and awarded, and I definitely want to be able to easily find everything later. You should bookmark it too so you don’t miss anything!
