Streamer & DJ Andrea Botez reveals she lost her hearing and warns against blasting music

Andrea Botez recently experienced a sudden and significant loss of hearing in her left ear. She shared a heartfelt video to raise awareness about the risks of loud music and the necessity of protecting your ears. Botez, who is both a streamer and a techno DJ, says the hearing loss happened unexpectedly, about an hour after she finished working out.

She explained it felt like being underwater, and a really high-pitched ringing started in her ear.

Initially, doctors thought her symptoms were just leftover fluid from a cold, but she didn’t get any better. A hearing test revealed she’d lost a considerable amount of high-frequency hearing in one ear, which she found incredibly upsetting because clear sound is so important for her work as a Twitch streamer.

I’m passionate about all things music – listening to it, and creating it myself. I have a well-trained ear and depend on it to distinguish different sounds and frequencies.

She now experiences constant tinnitus as well.

“I can’t hear the silence right now because there’s a super high pitch ringing in my ear.”

After researching her symptoms and talking to medical professionals, Botez suspected she had sudden sensorineural hearing loss – a condition that’s best treated quickly, ideally within 72 hours. Unfortunately, she says she didn’t receive the correct diagnosis until about a week after her symptoms began.

Andrea Botez warns fans against blasting loud music

Andrea Botez, known for her online presence with her sister Alexandra, shared that despite feeling hopeful about her treatment, there’s only a 33% chance of a full recovery.

Botez is receiving steroid injections and daily therapy to help her recover, and this experience has made her realize the long-term damage caused by exposure to loud music. She now regrets regularly attending raves, being near speakers during DJ rehearsals, listening to music loudly in the car, and standing close to large speakers.

She remembered loving to stand close to the speakers at raves, wanting to physically feel the deep vibrations of the bass.

She explains that even quiet sounds can cause harm over a long period, and she eventually began using earplugs during yoga because the music was irritating her ears. Despite being more careful recently, she still experienced the effects of prolonged strain.

Even quiet or subtle sounds can sometimes cause damage to your hearing.

Her message to fans is blunt: hearing damage is permanent, and tinnitus often never goes away.

The chess player strongly urged anyone attending a concert to wear earplugs. They explained that hearing loss is permanent, and tinnitus – a ringing in the ears – is a lifelong condition.

As a big music fan, I really appreciated her advice about protecting our hearing. She basically said if we listen to music a lot, we need to be smart about it – keep the volume down on our phones and definitely pay attention if our ears start to feel tired. It’s a good reminder to take care of ourselves so we can keep enjoying music for years to come!

Even with everything happening, Botez is still creating music and DJing on her streams, despite currently having hearing loss in her left ear. She hopes that by sharing her experience, she can help others prevent similar issues.

“If you’re a young person who enjoys music, please wear your earplugs and listen to your body.”
