Fans are celebrating another win! Just like the successful #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign that brought Zack Snyder’s vision of *Justice League* to life four years ago, the creators of the show are now addressing fan demands with #JusticeForBarb, giving the character the attention she deserves.
Fans hoping for a more satisfying resolution for Barb, the beloved character from Season 1 played by Shannon Purser, will likely be disappointed. During a visit to the set of *Stranger Things* Season 5, Time Magazine saw a realistic recreation of Barb’s body – a dummy covered in black vines (made partly from pool noodles), with purple lips and a large wound on her neck, partially buried in the ground. Surprisingly, the Duffer brothers, the show’s creators, revealed they never fully understood the audience’s strong connection to Barb. As Ross Duffer explained, they often received feedback asking about her fate, but felt the show’s central focus was always on Will Byers.
In the first season of *Stranger Things*, Nancy’s friend Barb disappeared into the Upside Down, just like Will Byers. Unfortunately, Barb never returned, which upset many viewers. This led to the #JusticeForBarb campaign, and in Season 2, Nancy began a storyline focused on the fact that no one seemed to care about her friend’s death. Despite this, fans continued to feel Barb’s fate was unresolved, and she eventually reappeared in the show’s final season.
Matt Duffer said Netflix kept pushing them about a certain character, and it turned out the streaming service was right to do so. Ross Duffer explained that they hadn’t focused enough on Barb, and as a result, the town of Hawkins also seemed to forget about her, which ironically made her more well-known. It’s unclear if Barb’s body will play a significant role in the final season or if it’s just a hidden detail for dedicated fans to find. Some fans have already voiced their frustration on X (formerly Twitter) that the reappearance of Barb was revealed prematurely.
Stranger Things Is Finally Ending After 9 Years
The first season of *Stranger Things* became a massive hit for Netflix, sparking a huge fan movement like #JusticeForBarb. The show has continued to grow in popularity ever since, even after Season 2 was made to help prevent the creators from getting overwhelmed. Its fourth season broke all sorts of viewing records for Netflix. Now, after almost ten years, the series is ending, and fans are eagerly awaiting the final episodes. They’ll be released in two parts: the first four episodes on Thanksgiving (November 26th), and the last three – episodes 5 through 7 and the series finale – over the holidays, with episodes 5-7 debuting on Christmas Day (December 25th) and the finale on New Year’s Eve (December 31st).
Stranger Things Season 5 will take place in the fall of 1987. “
Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix.
