After the latest season of Stranger Things came out, people started speculating that Joe Keery might join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While recent reports say he won’t be appearing in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day project, fans have a strong idea of which Marvel character he’d be perfect for.
Keery is most famous for playing Steve Harrington on Stranger Things. Fans love his character, especially his protective side – he often looks after the younger kids while bravely battling monsters, often with a baseball bat covered in nails.
Keery is a multi-talented artist, not only known for his acting but also for his successful music career as Djo. Recently, rumors have surfaced, reported by industry insider Daniel Richtman, suggesting Marvel is considering him for a future project.
Many fans immediately thought he’d be perfect as Harry Osborn in Spider-Man, but Richtman recently clarified that wasn’t the case. He explained that while the actor was considered for the role, Eman Esfandi was ultimately cast. However, Marvel is now considering him for a different part within the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel fans have perfect superhero role for Stranger Things star Joe Keery
While it’s still just guesswork, fans are already sharing their predictions, and one Marvel hero is mentioned repeatedly: Richard Rider, also known as Nova.
Okay, so I’m hearing rumors that Joe Keery – you know, Steve from Stranger Things – is potentially joining the Marvel universe! Everyone’s guessing he might be Nova, and honestly, that’d be awesome. It’s not official yet, but the internet is already buzzing about how perfect he’d be for the role. Fingers crossed it’s true!

Rider debuted in Marvel Comics in 1976 as a typical Earth teenager. He was selected to receive the powers of the Nova Corps, a group dedicated to maintaining peace throughout the galaxy, after their home planet, Xandar, was destroyed.
Being connected to the Nova Force granted him incredible powers – like super strength, the ability to fly, and increased durability – transforming him from an ordinary teen into a major cosmic hero in the Marvel Universe.
Nova has often starred in his own comic books, but he’s also been a key part of team-based series, most famously as one of the founding members of the New Warriors.
Although the Nova Corps has been featured in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Richard Rider, the character most people associate with Nova, hasn’t appeared on screen yet. Director James Gunn previously shared the reasons behind this decision.

In an interview with Phase Zero, the director explained that they never considered including Richard Rider in the film. They felt the character was too significant and, from the start of their involvement with Guardians, they didn’t want to feature two human characters.
I initially wanted a single human character to stand out in a world filled with alien creatures. But as we developed the story, we realized that each of these characters is unique – they’re the only one of their kind to each other, essentially the only ‘human’ they know.
As the Marvel Cinematic Universe grows with future films like ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars’, many fans believe Nova is a missing piece. Joe Keery has become a popular choice for the role because of his age, established fanbase, and ability to portray relatable characters who undergo significant development.
Fans reacted enthusiastically to the idea of Nova appearing in the project. One commenter said they could easily picture the character, while another eagerly called for Nova’s debut. Others simply agreed that Nova would be a great fit, and enthusiastically declared, “Nova it is!”
