Even though Stranger Things has ended, fans are still talking about a theory called ‘Conformity Gate,’ and Caleb McLaughlin, one of the show’s stars, recently explained what he thinks about it.
Even though Stranger Things finished airing at the beginning of the year, fans are still discussing what could have happened in a different ending.
The ‘Conformity Gate’ theory suggested that the ending shown in the finale wasn’t real, but a trick created by Vecna, and that the true ending would be released on January 7th.
That situation didn’t actually happen – the idea that there was a problem with how the character Lucas was treated by fans is completely untrue. Now, Caleb McLaughlin, the actor who plays Lucas, is speaking out about the whole thing.
Caleb McLaughlin thought Stranger Things ‘Conformity Gate’ theory was “dumb”

I initially dismissed the idea that the show could return,” McLaughlin explained to The Hollywood Reporter. “I understand fans want more Stranger Things, but it’s really finished. I kept thinking, ‘It’s been a decade, and we’ve all grown up – both the characters and the actors – so we don’t need another season.’
The creators of the show, the Duffer Brothers, really wanted to end things on a hopeful note, staying true to the optimistic spirit that’s always been at the heart of Stranger Things. They felt it was important to preserve that core feeling throughout the series.
McLaughlin added that the show concluded in the place it should, which is where it began.
We began and ended the first season with a Dungeons & Dragons game,” he said. “The way Mike crafted the story and wrote it was the perfect conclusion for the show.
Viewers misinterpreted the show’s premise when they assumed there would be more to the story. It was all just a product of Mike’s imagination, which has been a consistent part of his character since the beginning. Everything happening is simply how he tells the story.
How Stranger Things SNL spoof came about
Shortly after the last episode was released, Finn Wolfhard, who played Mike, hosted Saturday Night Live and performed in a sketch that jokingly referenced the popular fan theory known as Conformity Gate.
Finn convinced both McLaughlin and Gaten Matarazzo (who plays Dustin) to participate, and Caleb shared the story of how it went down: Finn simply asked if they could meet the day before the event, and Caleb happily agreed.
I had already planned to attend his SNL show because he’d invited all of us to support him. Then, they asked me to come out earlier to participate in a sketch, and I immediately agreed. I just asked them what they needed me to do.
