As a devoted fan who has grown up with these characters since their debut, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation about the upcoming Season 5 of Stranger Things. The fact that Will, Mike, Lucas, and Dustin are supposedly set to survive the apocalyptic events of the fifth season has sparked a flurry of discussions among fans like myself.
It appears that four characters will definitely make it through Stranger Things Season 5, leaving fans wondering about the fate of other cast members.
In the closing moments of Season 4, we witnessed a dramatic and melancholic conclusion: Max lay unconscious, while Eleven and her friends helplessly watched Hawkins disintegrate due to an interdimensional earthquake. The once familiar town was engulfed in flames as they prepared for their ultimate confrontation against Vecna.
It’s not an exaggeration to say Season 5 is the most anticipated TV show of 2025 (if not the decade, so far). Squid Game may be Netflix’s most-viewed series, but Stranger Things arguably turned the streaming service into the household empire it is today.
It appears that several theories are floating around about future outcomes, yet a recent leak seems to clarify which characters might make it through the fifth season.
Will, Mike, Lucas & Dustin set to survive Stranger Things Season 5
The main group of characters in Stranger Things – Will (played by Noah Schnapp), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) – are expected to make it through Season 5, based on a leaked production photo.
Previously, we were aware that the fifth season would leap forward from 1986 to autumn of 1987. However, it seems there will be an additional time skip, with the characters expected to graduate in 1989. Photos taken on the set of Georgie suggest that Hawkins may have been rebuilt and restored by then, leading fans to speculate this could be how the series concludes.
1989 Time Leap Verified! The production team is set to film a graduation scene imminently, featuring both the adult and child characters!

However, the Stranger Things Spoilers X/Twitter account also sparked concerns with its wording. “The scene reportedly involves Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, and various adults,” it wrote.
In other words, what will happen to Eleven, Max, Steve, Jonathan, Nancy, and Robin?
During week 47 of production, it’s rumored that the cast was filming at a freshly constructed school backdrop, capturing graduation moments!
If our sources are correct, we might witness a substantial time leap to Spring 1989 as the season draws to a close.
The scene supposedly features Mike, Will, and other characters in their final year of school.

It’s been hinted that Steve could be the character most at risk of being written off during the last season. Earlier this year, a clandestine image emerged featuring Robin following an ambulance, fueling rumors that she was rushing to see Steve before his possible demise, possibly due to injuries sustained in a battle against Vecna.
It’s more challenging to foresee what happens next for Eleven and Max. Given that Max managed to survive (barely) during Season 4, she seems to have found a measure of safety; however, if she remains hospitalized for several months, it would likely prevent her from graduating with the rest of the boys.
As a gamer, I’m worried about Eleven. It’d break Hopper’s heart to lose his surrogate daughter, but remember, saving Hawkins might require Eleven to make a heavy sacrifice. Maybe, just maybe, she’ll have to seal the gate from within the Upside Down herself.
User’s statement: “I’m worried about El and Max.
One person wondered aloud, “Where on earth are Eleven and Max?” Another replied, “Steve and Jonathan, let’s stick together here.
Here’s another perspective on the graduation scene: “It’s worth noting that, given Vecna’s reputation as a master of deception, it’s possible that each scene, including those set in the future, could be his creation. After all, he has the means to do so!
In other words, we can’t know for certain that anyone is safe.
