The creators of Stranger Things have confirmed that season 5 will finally reveal the answers to two mysteries that were first presented in the show’s very first season. This upcoming season will conclude the popular Netflix series, with the main characters in Hawkins working to defeat Vecna and prevent him from taking over the world through the Upside Down.
As a huge Stranger Things fan, I was so excited to hear the Duffer brothers talk about the new trailer with Entertainment Weekly. They finally confirmed they’re going to answer two of the biggest mysteries from the very beginning! Matt Duffer said the last eight episodes will explain what the Upside Down actually is, and finally reveal the real reason Will disappeared way back in season one. It’s about time! I can’t wait to get those answers!

It felt like they finally addressed those core mysteries from season one that had been lingering for so long. Specifically, we finally got a real explanation of what the Upside Down actually is, and, more importantly, we learned the truth about why Will was taken in the first place. It was incredibly satisfying to see those questions answered!
The latest trailer for Stranger Things season 5 hints at an epic final showdown, with the terrifying Upside Down beginning to take over Hawkins. The trailer ends with Vecna using his powers to lift Will, telling him he needs his assistance “one last time.” It’s clear Will has always been key to Vecna’s plans, and will likely play a crucial role in the coming battle.

According to the Duffer brothers, Will’s abduction wasn’t random – Vecna had a specific reason for choosing him. Whatever makes Will so important will likely be explained in season 5 as the villain’s plans unfold.
The Upside Down is essentially a dark reflection of Hawkins, created when the initial gateway opened at the beginning of the first season. Vecna heavily influenced its landscape and has always been the one controlling creatures like the Demogorgons and the Mind Flayer.
Understanding the source of the Upside Down and Will’s connection to Vecna could be the key to finally defeating him. Whether or not the team’s next moves will be successful is still uncertain, but they hope it will provide the answers they need to protect their world.
With the fifth season of Stranger Things arriving in just under a month, the new details it reveals about the Upside Down and Will’s story could heavily influence the direction of the final episodes.
