Stranger Things Season 5: Key Episodes to Reveal Upside Down Mysteries

Be warned, this contains spoilers for the first part of Stranger Things season 5! After a decade of buildup, the latest episodes, released on November 26th, delivered some important answers to long-held fan questions. Now, viewers are eager to learn the full significance of the Upside Down, and the creators, the Duffer Brothers, have confirmed that these mysteries will finally be solved.

The creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer Brothers, recently told Deadline that certain episodes will provide crucial answers about the mysterious Upside Down, the reason Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) was originally taken, and how it all connects to Holly Wheeler (Nell Fisher). Matt Duffer explained that these answers will be revealed in…

As the story progresses into the second volume, we begin to reveal the reasons behind Will’s kidnapping and how they connect to Holly and the larger mystery. Everything starts to come together. Volume 2 is where we really delve into the Upside Down and finally explain what it is – something we’ve been planning for a decade, and are now ready to share.

In the closing scenes of Volume 1, Vecna’s identity is revealed, and Will discovers his hidden abilities. He’s now officially a powerful sorcerer or wizard, capable of using Vecna’s powers because of a mysterious link between them. Noah Schnapp discussed this major reveal with Deadline, explaining that Volume 2 of Stranger Things will delve deeper into how Will’s powers work.

Initially, the plan was for Will’s abilities to function similarly to Eleven’s, but the scripts for Volume 2 revealed a different approach. We really focused on visually showing that his powers manifested in a unique way. As we developed Will’s storyline, we began to see strong connections between him and Vecna. It reminded me a lot of the relationship between Harry Potter and Voldemort – I even re-watched the Harry Potter movies for inspiration – and we spent a lot of time exploring those parallels and what they meant for the story.

Even though we still don’t fully understand the Upside Down, why Will disappeared, or what Vecna is really up to, the second part of the season promises to answer many questions for fans, setting the stage for the final release on December 31st.

As a huge fan of the show, I was really intrigued by the mystery surrounding how Holly ended up at the Creel house. The Duffer Brothers haven’t given us all the details yet, but they’ve said they wanted to echo the very beginning of the story – Will’s disappearance in season one. It makes me wonder if Holly might have some kind of special ability, just like Will did.

Jamie Campbell Bower, the actor who plays the villain Vecna, suggested a significant event is coming for his character and Max Mayfield (played by Sadie Sink), who is currently stuck inside Vecna’s mental world.

He’s really frustrated with Max being around, and it’s going to come to a head later in the story. She’s a key part of what happens next. It’s especially annoying for him because he’s trying to manipulate Holly, and Max is pulling Holly away. Having Max interfere like this is definitely a source of irritation.

We don’t yet know exactly what Max did to threaten Vecna, but her exploration of his mind and the title of Episode 6, “Escape from Camazotz,” suggest she and Holly might be able to break free from him.

The first part of Stranger Things season 5 is now streaming on Netflix. The second part will be released on December 25th, and the very last episode of the series will be available on December 31st.
