Despite a long break – over three years since the last season – the premiere of Stranger Things season five was a huge success. The first part of the final season racked up 59.6 million views worldwide in its first five days on Netflix, making it the second most-watched series premiere ever on the platform, only behind Squid Game season two. It’s also the most popular English-language series premiere, surpassing the previous record held by Wednesday season one (50.1 million views in four days). Stranger Things released its first four episodes on a Wednesday, giving it an extra day to accumulate views compared to typical Thursday premieres. However, it’s worth noting that Wednesday launched with a complete season, while this is just the start of the final chapter for Stranger Things and its characters.
The creators of the show, Matt and Ross Duffer, shared that the number of viewers for Volume 1 has been amazing – far exceeding their expectations. They expressed how rewarding it’s been to see the show’s fanbase grow over the past ten years, not just survive, and thanked the actors and the thousands of artists who contributed to bringing the story to life. They are thrilled to release Volume 2 and promise there’s much more to come!
The second volume, including the next three episodes, will be released on Christmas Day. The final episode will premiere on Netflix and in movie theaters on New Year’s Eve at 8 p.m. Eastern Time. This two-hour and five-minute finale will be shown at the same time in 500 theaters across the U.S. and Canada, offering a big finish to Stranger Things coinciding with the New Year’s celebrations.
