The second part of Stranger Things Season 5 is now available, but all eyes are on the very last episode, which will air on New Year’s Eve.
After almost ten years following the events in Hawkins, viewers are hoping for a satisfying conclusion to the story, rather than just more violence. The show’s creators are aware of the concerns, especially after seeing comparisons to the controversial ending of Game of Thrones all over social media.
The fifth season started with a lot of hype, and the first part was generally well-received, largely because of the reveal of Will’s abilities. However, the second part of the season focuses more on building suspense.
It looks like the series will end with one final episode lasting two hours, and it has a lot to resolve. This understandably makes some viewers nervous, particularly those who’ve been disappointed by finales that didn’t live up to expectations.
The Duffers say the finale won’t “shock or upset” fans
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Matt Duffer was questioned about hinting that multiple characters might die for the sake of the story. He was asked how concerned viewers should be for those characters’ lives.
The Duffer brothers were quick to address concerns, clarifying that their show isn’t aiming for the same shocking twists and turns as ‘Game of Thrones.’ They assured viewers there won’t be events like the infamous ‘Red Wedding,’ and their goal isn’t to deliberately shock or disturb the audience.

The finale won’t be predictable, but it also won’t rely on shocking twists just for the sake of it. Matt explained that while there will still be surprising moments, the ending should feel natural and like a fitting conclusion to the story. He hopes viewers will feel that what happens was inevitable by the time they reach the end.
Ross Duffer shared that the show’s final scene was something they’d been planning for years. He explained that everything throughout Season 5 has been building up to that moment, and the last few minutes will be particularly impactful.
People are aware that a late mistake overshadows everything else, but ultimately, they realize it’s impossible to please everyone.
Finally, they decided to trust their gut feelings and the actors, who reportedly feel good about how their characters’ stories concluded.
