The Stop Killing Games campaign is very likely to get a hearing with the European Commission. Initial verification confirms that almost all – 97% – of the 1.45 million signatures on their petition are legitimate.
Stop Killing Games, started by Ross Scott, the creator of Accursed Farms, is a movement of gamers fighting to keep online games running even after their publishers stop updating them. They’ve launched a petition asking the European Union for laws that would protect players’ access to these games.
The campaign gained significant momentum earlier this year, with online communities on platforms like YouTube and Reddit helping it gather over 1 million signatures. This number of signatures required the European Union to officially review the petition.
It seems my concerns from July were unfounded. While not all signatures for the European Citizens’ Initiative have been checked yet, initial results show about 97% are valid. This likely means a review by the EU Commission is almost certain.

The campaign gained significant traction thanks to widespread attention on social media, where popular streamers and influencers promoted it and addressed doubts about its feasibility. By the July 31st deadline, it had gathered almost half a million more signatures than its goal, accounting for potential invalid submissions.
97% of SKG signatures validated by national authorities
Stop Killing Games recently shared an update on Reddit, stating that initial findings show their petition is valid in 97% of the countries where signatures were collected. This strong result makes a hearing with the EU Commission very likely. While national authorities are still verifying the signatures – a process expected to take about three months – the organizers plan to hand-deliver the petition to Brussels as soon as verification is complete, which will begin the process of potential legislative action.
The campaign announced its upcoming plans, which include contacting Members of Parliament and officials at the Commission, working against industry lobbying efforts, and building up its local support network. SKG also shared that there have been some changes in who’s leading the campaign, with some dedicated volunteers retiring and new people stepping up to take on important positions.

Ross Scott shared an update on X, saying his previous concerns seemed unfounded. While not all signatures have been tallied for the European Citizens’ Initiative, the ones counted so far are valid at a rate of around 97%. He believes this likely means a review by the EU Commission will happen.
Supporters will receive more regular updates in the coming weeks as the initiative gears up for its political campaign.
