
The Stop Killing Games campaign successfully gathered over one million verified signatures – a total of 1,294,188 – on its European Citizens’ Initiative, meaning the EU Commission will now review their proposal.
On January 24th, campaign representative Moritz Katzner announced the final results and stated that they will now be officially submitted to EU institutions in Brussels.

Posting on X/Twitter, Katzner confirmed the total and outlined what comes next for the initiative.
The European Citizens’ Initiative to protect video games has gathered enough signatures. The official results will be presented in Brussels around mid-to-late February, and a breakdown of signatures from each country has been published.
Germany gathered the most signatures with a total of 233,180. France came in second with 145,289, closely followed by Poland with 143,826.

Stop Killing Games is a campaign that highlights the practice of publishers permanently shutting down games they’ve already sold, even fully finished ones, by turning off the servers or other necessary systems.
The campaign believes players should still be able to play games they’ve bought, even after official online services are discontinued, either by playing offline or using legitimate ways to continue accessing them.
This initiative doesn’t guarantee new laws will be created, but collecting enough signatures forces the European Commission to officially consider the idea and provide an answer. With the change in leadership happening soon in Brussels, that review process is about to begin.
Just recently, the game Anthem stopped working altogether. BioWare, the game’s developer, shut down its servers on January 12, 2026, making the action RPG permanently unplayable.
