Steven Spielberg’s most recent science fiction film is leaving Netflix in just one week. Although he has another sci-fi movie planned for 2026, it’s been several years since he last directed a film in this genre.
It’s been seven years since Steven Spielberg’s last science fiction movie premiered in 2018, earning over $583 million and receiving positive reviews. Considering its success and that it remains his most recent sci-fi film, it’s a good time to watch or re-watch it before it’s removed from Netflix this month.
Ready Player One Is Set To Leave Netflix On December 30
Throughout December, a number of popular movies and TV shows will be removed from Netflix. Some of the titles leaving include the Back to the Future trilogy, Clueless, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Supernatural, and Arrow.
Before the end of the month, Netflix will remove the film Ready Player One (released in 2018) on December 30th. The series Evil will follow, leaving the platform on December 31, 2025, according to Netflix.
Viewers have only one week left to watch Ready Player One on Netflix. After that, at the end of 2025, it will no longer be available, along with other movies and shows leaving the service in December.
Why It’s Worth Watching Ready Player One Before It Leaves Netflix
Ready Player One is based on the popular novel of the same title. The movie successfully combines tons of references to pop culture and famous franchises with an original and engaging story.
Despite being a large-scale science fiction adventure, Ready Player One makes its digital setting feel impressively vast and exciting. The film also explores how technology can ironically isolate people, and director Steven Spielberg delivers the kind of stunning visuals that captivated audiences in classics like Jurassic Park and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
While Ready Player One isn’t flawless – it shares some of the same problems as the original book, and sometimes prioritizes impressive visuals over a strong emotional core – it’s still worth watching on Netflix. It’s a film worth experiencing so you can form your own opinion about Steven Spielberg’s take on the story.
