Despite being cancelled after just two seasons, the sci-fi drama created by Steven Spielberg is now experiencing a resurgence in popularity.
The Halo TV series, adapted from the popular video game franchise that began in 2001, is gaining traction on streaming charts almost two years after its cancellation. According to FlixPatrol, it’s currently ranked #4 on Apple TV’s VOD platform, and both seasons are attracting a new global audience. The show’s cancellation was unexpected, considering it was in development for nearly ten years before premiering.
Steven Spielberg was an executive producer on the Halo TV series. Kyle Killen and Steven Kane initially developed the show and served as showrunners, with David Wiener taking over for the second season. Pablo Schreiber starred as Master Chief, and the Paramount+ series also featured Olive Gray, Yerin Ha, Shabana Azmi, Kate Kennedy, and Danny Sapani in key roles. The show was cancelled by the studio on July 18, 2024, after two seasons.
When Paramount+ announced the show’s cancellation, they released a statement praising the series and everyone involved. They thanked their partners at Xbox, 343 Industries, and Amblin Television, as well as showrunner David Wiener, the cast—especially Pablo Schreiber, who played Master Chief—and the entire crew for their hard work and dedication. They wished everyone well in their future endeavors.
Can Halo Season 3 Still Happen After Cancellation
Even though Halo season 2 was canceled, the trend of TV revivals means almost any show has a chance of returning, potentially on a different network or streaming service. Considering how popular the Halo franchise is, many fans are hoping season 3 will find a new home, even if it’s not on Paramount+.
As of today, no new platforms have stepped forward to continue the Halo series after its cancellation. However, The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that, when the show was canceled, there were efforts to find a new home for season 3, and Paramount+ was reportedly open to the idea. Unfortunately, those attempts didn’t lead to anything.
Why Halo Is Finding Success Outside Paramount+
Because Paramount+ isn’t available worldwide, the Halo series will be shown on whichever streaming service has the rights in each country, for viewers with a subscription. The show’s recent streaming success could be due to a variety of factors – some people are just discovering the adaptation years after the game’s release, while others who aren’t familiar with the games are tuning in. It’s also likely that viewers who missed the show when it originally aired are now curious to see how it connects to – and differs from – the popular video game franchise.
Catch both seasons of Halo on Paramount+ in the United States and on Apple TV VOD worldwide.
