Steve Mensch, Tyler Perry Studios President, Dies in Plane Crash

As a veteran film industry observer with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the loss of Steve Mensch leaves a profound void in our community. His contributions to the industry, particularly at Tyler Perry Studios and beyond, were nothing short of monumental.

Sadly, Steve Mensch, the head honcho of studio operations at Tyler Perry Studios, passed away in a tragic plane accident last Friday evening. He was 62 years old.

As reported by ABC affiliate WFTS-TV based in Tampa Bay, Florida, a person identified as Mensch, who was operating a small aircraft, tragically lost his life on Friday evening. This incident occurred near the crossroads of U.S.-98 in Homosassa, Florida. The local authorities are currently investigating the cause of the plane crash.

We deeply mourn the loss of our cherished friend, Steve Mensch,” Tyler Perry Studios expressed in a statement to EbMaster. “For over 8 years, Steve was an adored member of our team, and held in high esteem within the Atlanta community. His absence from our halls with his ever-present smile will be profoundly felt. We will miss him greatly. Our thoughts are with his family as we collectively send them our condolences and prayers.

Since 2016, Mensch has been overseeing Perry’s extensive Atlanta studio, which ranks among the biggest in the U.S., spanning approximately 300 acres. This sprawling property, once Fort McPherson army base, accommodates not only Perry’s ventures but also projects and productions from various external studios.

Prior to his tenure with Perry, Mensch held the position of president at a different Georgia-based media production company, Third Rail Studios. His responsibilities included managing daily operations, hiring staff, and overseeing studio expansion until its official launch in June 2016. In addition, he worked as a studio director, handling location operations and strategic partnerships for production at Turner Broadcasting for approximately ten years.

Mensch is survived by his wife and three children.
