Steam announced its top-selling games of 2025, and the list includes two surprise indie successes. Interestingly, both of these popular games were created by developers in Australia.
2025 was an amazing year for video games. Popular new titles like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and ARC Raiders captured players’ attention, and games like Peak and Megabonk were also big hits, offering a wide variety of experiences for all types of gamers.
These games have become very profitable thanks to their widespread popularity. While financial success isn’t the only thing that matters, it’s a major way to identify the year’s most impactful releases.
2025 was a huge year for gaming! All the big names like Battlefield 6 and Monster Hunter Wilds were making tons of money, as you’d expect. But what really surprised me was that two smaller, independent teams actually broke into the top sellers on Steam. Seriously, they were among the biggest financial successes of the year – it was amazing to see!
Schedule 1 & Hollow Knight: Silksong rank in Steam’s best-sellers of 2025
To round out the year, Valve always shares a look at the top sellers and most-played games of the year. It also highlights the best-selling new releases, meaning games that launched in the given calendar year.
The top 12 games are considered ‘Platinum’ and appear in a random order. For 2025, highly anticipated titles like ARC Raiders, FC 26, and Borderlands 4 are among them. In addition to eight games from major publishers, two independent games earned enough money to also make the list.
In 2025, both Hollow Knight: Silksong and Schedule 1 were among Steam’s top 12 best-selling games. What’s especially impressive is that they generated this revenue despite being the least expensive games on the list.

After an eight-year wait, the small team at Team Cherry released Silksong, which quickly became a huge success, selling over seven million copies in its first four months. Remarkably, this was achieved even with the game being included with Xbox Game Pass at no additional cost.
A surprising hit emerged from an Australian developer with the game, Schedule 1. Launched in Early Access in March, it rapidly gained popularity and has already earned tens of millions of dollars. It’s currently among the top 12 best-selling games of the year and is expected to continue thriving even before its official release in the future.
Below is the full list of Steam’s best-selling games of 2025, in random order:
