The redesigned Steam store is now available to all users, and first reactions are coming in. While many players like the new look and feel, some are critical, feeling Valve has prioritized a mobile-style design over the traditional computer interface.
New Steam store divides players
I’ve been checking out the new Steam store interface, and I’m seeing a lot of chatter on the r/Steam subreddit. One thing people are really liking is how, when you click the search bar, it shows these big, popular search icons. Honestly, that’s a great move – not just for mobile users, but for *everyone*. It makes things way easier to navigate, especially if you have trouble with your eyesight or, like me, are an older gamer who appreciates a clear interface!

The Steam store has been updated with improved search capabilities. While not all changes are obvious at first, you can now search for developers, publishers, and tags in addition to games. However, the new system seems primarily designed for mobile users, which remains a drawback.
Honestly, I’m not loving the new interface. Everything feels so spread out with these huge icons, and it’s actually *more* clicking to get where I want to go. It’s like they prioritized looks over usability. Plus, I don’t really care about what’s trending or the newest releases they’re pushing – I just want to find my games easily. I really wish they’d give us the option to switch back to the old layout, or at least let us customize things a bit more.
Honestly, I don’t think Valve is going to let us choose whether or not to use the new Steam store layout – we’re probably stuck with it. We’ll find out how it actually *works* pretty soon, though, because the Autumn Sale starts in just a few days. Even if I wasn’t looking for changes, I’m going to run into them while I’m hunting for deals, that’s for sure. I’m really hoping Valve keeps a closer eye on things this time and protects us from games with nasty stuff hidden inside. It’s just, recently the developers of *Block Blasters* straight-up stole around $150,000, and that’s messed up.
