A Sydney, Australia steakhouse is getting a lot of attention online after posting video of a customer allegedly trying to avoid paying a $600 bill by pulling armpit hair and placing it on his meal.
On February 12th, Pony Dining, a popular and established steakhouse in Sydney’s The Rocks area (open for over 20 years), shared security camera footage of a customer dining with a group.
The video showed the man seemingly pulling hairs from his body, under his shirt, and placing them on his steak multiple times.
The restaurant explained they rarely post about situations like this one. A customer complained after finding a hair in their food and refused to pay for the meal.
According to Pony Dining in The Rocks, that was only the beginning of the trouble.
Customer allegedly skips payment after putting armpit hair on expensive steak
Speaking with news.com.au, the restaurant claimed that the customer was being rude towards staff.
Our team reported experiencing behavior during the interaction that was inappropriate and unacceptable.
They observed that the man had spent $600 on steaks and ordered some of the restaurant’s priciest items.
The steak restaurant said they provided the guests with a lovely dinner, ensuring everything was spotless and the table looked beautiful. They reviewed the CCTV footage after noticing the guests were behaving strangely.
The customers ordered a large meal, including a Tomahawk steak, but refused to pay the bill. We contacted the police, but because we didn’t have video evidence at the time, they considered it a civil matter and said there was nothing they could do. The customers did pay for their drinks before leaving.
The said they shared the clip in order to raise awareness for fellow hospitality venues.
People expressed their disapproval in the video’s comments, and some even claimed the man had done this at other places.
A nearby restaurant manager claimed the same thing happened to them, stating, “They did the exact same thing to me.”
Recently, there’s been a rise in videos of people leaving restaurants without paying, and this isn’t a new trend. Back in November 2025, a food influencer in New York City, nicknamed the “dine and dash diva,” was arrested for reportedly skipping out on bills at several expensive restaurants.
