Even though it came out almost ten years ago, Stardew Valley continues to improve thanks to new content, discoveries made by players, and the creative mods the community builds. And just when you thought the huge 1.6 update was everything, the game’s creator, ConcernedApe, has announced plans for another major update coming soon.
Fans are still buzzing about the news revealed at the end of August during the Stardew Valley concert tour. The biggest excitement centers around a brand new farm type coming in update 1.7! The update was announced by ConcernedApe in a quick reply on X (formerly Twitter), which explains the recent surge in excitement about this discovery.
Stardew Valley Is The Gift That Keeps On Giving
The already highly replayable game Stardew Valley is generating even more excitement after the announcement of its 1.7 update. Fans on Reddit, like Praise-Breesus, are enthusiastically sharing their support, with some jokingly saying they feel they’ve already gotten more than their money’s worth, even after multiple purchases.
It’s unusual for any game studio, and especially for a small independent developer like ConcernedApe, that Stardew Valley has received so many large updates and content additions without ever charging players for downloadable content.
Even with the big 1.7 update coming to Stardew Valley, players are still discovering hidden customization options and secrets within the game. Although the update might not be released by Christmas, there are plenty of mods available to keep players entertained until then.
A New Farm Type Is “Tradition”
ConcernedApe has said that adding new farm types is a long-standing tradition in the game, and that there’s much more coming in update 1.7 that he’s not ready to share yet. This suggests the update will be a significant addition for dedicated players.
Although the developers haven’t revealed what the next farm type will be, the two most requested options are based on the popular Swamp and Desert Bloom mods. Fans seem much more enthusiastic about a swamp farm, with many Reddit users, like Ashbreak, expressing their excitement – one user said, “YES I would LOVE a swamp farm!!” – and others calling it a “really fantastic idea.”

Beyond the buzz about the new farm, the upcoming 1.7 update looks promising. It includes new characters and social features that could make the game’s long-standing characters feel fresh and more developed.
Although many games share similarities with Stardew Valley, it doesn’t look like it will disappear anytime soon, even though development on Haunted Chocolatier is well underway.
