It’s difficult to imagine any Star Wars movie truly being forgotten. The franchise is incredibly popular – and for good reason! The main Star Wars saga includes some of the most discussed films ever made, and even the standalone stories like Rogue One and Solo are well-known.
This lesser-known Star Wars film came out in 2008. It was an animated movie designed to connect the second and third prequel films. Although it only made around $68 million at the box office, the movie is significant because it introduced a now-famous character.
The Clone Wars Movie Introduced Ahsoka
The animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars first introduced the character Ahsoka Tano. She begins as Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice, assigned by Yoda for Jedi training. Her introduction was surprising to some, as she doesn’t appear in later films like Revenge of the Sith.
I always felt like people underestimated Ahsoka from the beginning. It seemed like if a character wasn’t a major player in other stories, they were probably going to die quickly, and that’s how a lot of fans saw her. But I think having her as Anakin’s padawan was deliberate; it had to mean she was important to his story, and maybe even helped explain why he eventually fell to the Dark Side. It just made sense that she’d be key to understanding his journey.
Reception For Ahsoka Wasn’t Great At First
Despite some fans hoping for great things, Ahsoka’s first appearance was a letdown. Both viewers and critics reacted negatively, often describing her as childish and irritating.
The movie itself wasn’t very memorable, and many doubted the character would be around for long, making it hard for audiences to care about her. The animation wasn’t particularly well-received either, so her design didn’t even capture people’s attention.
Ahsoka Has Become One Of Star Wars’ Best Characters
Honestly, all that early criticism of Ahsoka is forgotten now – she’s become such a beloved and vital part of the Star Wars universe! I think starting her off as a bit of a headstrong Padawan was a brilliant move. It meant we got to see her develop and mature over those seven amazing seasons of The Clone Wars. It was just so well-written, and you really felt her growth.
Ahsoka Tano has one of the most compelling storylines in the Star Wars universe, showing her development as both an individual and a Jedi before she chooses to leave the Order. And with each new appearance, she continues to gain popularity and become an even more fascinating character.
Ahsoka Tano’s character really blossomed over time, starting with opportunities in The Clone Wars. Her role in Star Wars: Rebels, especially her confrontation with Darth Vader, was a standout. More recently, her appearances in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett were hugely popular, leading to her own hit live-action series, Ahsoka.
Ahsoka Tano, whether portrayed by Rosario Dawson in live-action, voiced by Ashley Eckstein in animation, or featured in the Ahsoka novel, has significantly developed since her initial, somewhat weak introduction.
