Ahead of a major new release, Star Wars has announced a name change for an important Inquisitor character. These characters, first appearing in the popular Star Wars: Rebels series, have become a key part of the Star Wars story after the events of Revenge of the Sith. The Inquisitors, a group dedicated to hunting down Jedi and using the dark side, will return in the upcoming Maul: Shadow Lord series, where they’ll be pursuing Sam Witwer’s character, a Sith lord who wields a double-bladed lightsaber.
The upcoming animated series Maul: Shadow Lord will feature two Inquisitor characters, and one of them is receiving a new title. The Inquisitor previously known as the Eleventh Brother will now be referred to by a different name, according to a recent announcement from Funko Pop!

The newest figure from the popular vinyl collectible company features a returning character, but with a new name. While fans will recognize him as the Inquisitor previously known as the Eleventh Brother, the box now calls him “The Crow.” This nickname likely refers to the crow-like mask he’s become known for.
When the character now known as The Crow first appeared in Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi and later in Tales of the Empire, he wasn’t identified by name. However, Star Wars Insider magazine officially stated he was, at that point, the Eleventh Brother.

Whether Darth Maul had fully become the Eleventh Brother or had already moved past that title by the time of Maul: Shadow Lord is unknown. For now, however, he’s simply referred to as The Crow.
The Crow isn’t the only Inquisitor appearing in Lucasfilm’s latest animated series. He’ll be joined by Marrok, also known as the First Brother, who some viewers will recognize from his role in the live-action Ahsoka show.
The new Disney+ series, Maul: Shadow Lord, follows Maul after the events of Order 66 as he builds a criminal empire, attempting to stay hidden from the Galactic Empire. But his freedom is limited, as both Imperial Inquisitors and local authorities begin to investigate his activities. Maul: Shadow Lord premieres on Disney+ April 6th.
Why Did Star Wars Rename Maul: Shadow Lord’s Big Villain?

This new Funko Pop! figure marks the first time fans have seen the crow-masked character from Maul: Shadow Lord identified as anything other than the Eleventh Brother, which is why the change to the name “The Crow” is so puzzling.
Some believe he’s still known internally as the Eleventh Brother, and “The Crow” is just a nickname that arose as his reputation as a Jedi killer grew. But if that’s true, it’s odd that Funko didn’t use his official name on their products.
So far, Funko Pop! figures haven’t reflected characters’ original names. For example, Trilla Suduri from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order wasn’t identified by her actual name on the box; instead, she was labeled as the Second Sister, which was how the Empire knew her.
The nickname “Crow” might be important to the story, which is why it appears on official Maul products. It’s possible Maul recognizes this Inquisitor from before the Empire, knowing him by that name.
Fans won’t have to wait much longer for answers, as the next installment in the series, Maul: Shadow Lord, is scheduled for release in 2026.
