The latest trailer for Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is here, and it looks like it will be one of the most action-packed animated Star Wars series yet. With a fresh visual style, exciting lightsaber battles, and powerful use of the Force, the trailer shows this series won’t hold back.
Aside from all the excitement, there’s an interesting detail in the new Star Wars trailer that fans might appreciate. A specific scene strongly resembles moments from The Force Unleashed, a series of video games that aren’t currently considered official canon but feature Darth Vader’s hidden apprentice – a character Sam Witwer, who plays Maul, originally voiced.
The New Darth Maul Trailer Features Incredibly Intense Dark Side Action
The latest trailer for Shadow Lord leaves no doubt: Maul is a terrifying force in the Star Wars universe. Each scene highlights his incredible skill and unrestrained rage. The trailer’s unique watercolor-style animation perfectly captures the speed and power of his lightsaber combat.
It was incredible watching Maul on Janix! He just cut through all those police and stormtroopers like they weren’t even there. But what really blew me away was seeing him go toe-to-toe with the Eleventh and First Brother – those powerful Imperial Inquisitors, Marrok included. Even though Ahsoka eventually took them down, Maul giving them a fight was a seriously impressive moment.
The trailer reveals that Maul will attempt to team up with two Jedi who have survived, including a young Twi’lek Padawan named Devon. Many fans believe Devon could be a new version of Darth Talon, a character from older Star Wars stories who was once Maul’s apprentice and part of George Lucas’s original plans for the sequel trilogy.
Although it hasn’t been officially confirmed, the idea of Devon training under Maul in the current Star Wars storyline is a really interesting development.
However, the trailer’s exciting finale strongly resembles scenes from the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed games, particularly those featuring the character Starkiller (Galen Marek). This was actually the first Star Wars role voiced by Sam Witwer, who later became known as the voice of Darth Maul.
Maul: Shadow Lord Has An Epic Force Unleashed Nod (Was It On Purpose?)
Okay, the new Maul – Shadow Lord trailer ends with a seriously cool moment. We see Maul take down a classic AT-ST walker – and it’s not a clean fight. He slices through the legs with his signature double-bladed lightsaber, then follows it up with a perfectly thrown saber that splits the cockpit right in two. The best part? He’s already walking away before the whole thing even hits the ground. It’s a powerful visual that really emphasizes just how dangerous he is.
The most exciting part of the new Star Wars trailer is definitely when we see Force powers being used in a really powerful way, but it also reminds us of things we’ve seen before. The Force Unleashed games already showed us how strong Force users could be, letting players destroy objects and defeat enemies with incredible displays of power as the character Starkiller, played by Sam Witwer.
A great example of this can be seen in how Starkiller, a character from older Star Wars games, would use the Force and his lightsaber to destroy AT-ST walkers. This is likely why Darth Maul’s recent takedown of a walker feels so familiar. It could just be a coincidence, but over the years, destroying vehicles with the Force has become a common feature in Star Wars games, especially in titles like those made by EA, such as Jedi. Even so, it’s still a cool connection to notice.
Even though the two stories might have similarities, we now know Maul – Shadow Lord will definitely connect to The Force Unleashed. David W. Collins, who voiced the droid Proxy in The Force Unleashed, will be in Shadow Lord as a new character named Spybot. This marks the first time he and actor Sam Witwer have worked together in the Star Wars universe in over ten years.
The new scene with Maul is fantastic, whether it was planned this way or just a happy coincidence. It captures the same exciting feeling of power that fans love, and it solidifies Maul’s place as a truly fearsome villain in the Star Wars universe. He’s never seemed stronger, and it looks like Star Wars is finally giving him the attention he deserves as a menacing character.
Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord is set to premiere April 6th on Disney Plus.
