Even before the first episode airs, Lucasfilm and Disney+ have announced a second season of their new series, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord. This isn’t too surprising, as the show focuses on Maul, one of the most enduring characters in the Star Wars universe.
Disney+ and Lucasfilm have confirmed that Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord will return for a second season before the current season even begins. The announcement came directly from Dave Filoni, the series creator and executive producer, who was recently named co-president of Lucasfilm.
What Is Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord About?
Following the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where Maul escaped from Ahsoka Tano, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord shows what happened next. The series will explore how Maul avoided being captured or killed by the Inquisitorius after Order 66, and how he rebuilt his criminal organization, eventually becoming the leader of Crimson Dawn – a story hinted at in the film Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Lucasfilm says the new show will deliver a classic, action-packed adventure. Though visually similar to other Star Wars animated series like The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord will include unique visual elements to show the story from Maul’s point of view.
Maul -Shadow Lord Is Diving Deep Into Forgotten Star Wars Lore
The new Star Wars comic, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, will introduce Devon Izara, a Twi’lek and former Jedi, as Maul’s apprentice. Fans believe Izara is the official version of a character originally created by George Lucas to be Maul’s Sith apprentice, and who was once planned as a villain in a potential sequel trilogy. While those plans changed, a similar character, Darth Talon, appeared in the older Star Wars: Legacy comic series. The next season of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord will likely explore Izara’s story and her relationship with Maul in more detail.
Sam Witwer is once again the voice of Darth Maul, reprising his role from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels in the new series, Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord. Joining him are Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara, Wagner Moura as detective Brander Lawson, and Richard Ayoade as Lawson’s droid companion, Two-Boots.
The new animated series, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, will premiere on Disney+ on April 6th. A comic book series from Marvel Comics, serving as a prequel to the show, started releasing in March.
