fans just got a glimpse of the Jedi hero Kylo Ren could have been — and he is awesome.

Issue #12 of Star Wars: Legacy of Vader (created by Charles Soule, Luke Ross, Nolan Woodard, and Joe Caramagna) concludes Kylo Ren’s quest to understand Darth Vader’s strength and maximize his own potential. However, he doesn’t find what he expected; instead, he encounters a vision of the Jedi he could have become.

While the Star Wars sequel trilogy gave Adam Driver’s character a specific ending, the comics present a different, and arguably more compelling, possibility for his fate—one that many fans might find more satisfying than what happened in the films.

Jedi Ben Solo is Even More Impressive Than Kylo Ren

Kylo Ren confronts his inner demons in a desperate attempt to forge his own path! He ventures into the terrifying depths of Vader’s Castle, where haunting visions of Darth Vader force him to face his past. Will Kylo escape the overwhelming legacy of his grandfather, or will he be forever defined by it?

I was so intrigued when Kylo Ren first appeared in The Force Awakens back in 2015, played brilliantly by Adam Driver! It was a huge shock to learn he was actually Han and Leia’s son, Ben Solo. He started training as a Jedi with Luke Skywalker, but somehow, the Supreme Leader Snoke corrupted him and turned him to the dark side, leading him to become the powerful Kylo Ren we all know.

Kylo Ren was the main villain throughout the Star Wars sequel trilogy, but he also had a heroic side, especially at the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Since then, the character has shown up in various Star Wars projects, including the animated series Star Wars Resistance and the video game Star Wars Battlefront II.

Taking place between Star Wars: The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker, the comic series Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, written by Charles Soule and illustrated by Luke Ross, explores a mysterious and powerful source. The first issue sees Kylo Ren traveling to the dangerous planet Mustafar to investigate a hidden Sith temple where Darth Vader secretly worked for years.

According to Marvel Comics, recent developments – including Darth Vader’s murder of his father, his loss to Luke Skywalker, and a surprising link to Rey – are forcing Kylo Ren to confront his legacy as Vader’s descendant.

As Kylo Ren tries to impose order on the galaxy, his descent into darkness leads him on a dangerous quest to learn about his grandfather’s past. Traveling from Mustafar to Tatooine, he’ll face thrilling challenges that force him to confront his inner demons and ultimately fulfill his destiny.
