Okay, so I was really excited to hear Jeremy Allen White – you know, the guy who blew everyone away in The Bear – finally talked about joining the new Star Wars movie! It’s officially titled The Mandalorian and Grogu, and we’re looking at a release date of May 22, 2026. As a huge fan, I’ve been waiting for any news, and it’s great to finally have some confirmation about his role!
How was Jeremy Allen White cast as Jabba the Hutt’s son in The Mandalorian & Grogu?
In a recent interview with Variety, actor Mark Hamill shared the story of how he was cast as Rotta the Hutt in The Mandalorian. He’s been a Star Wars fan for years, and director Jon Favreau personally offered him the part after they met at a party.
I’ve been a huge Jon Favreau fan ever since I saw ‘Swingers’ and ‘Made’ – those movies really resonated with me when I was starting out as an actor. I actually met Jon at a party and told him how much his work meant to me. He immediately said he had a project he wanted to discuss, and called me the very next day. He started talking about ‘The Mandalorian,’ and I told him how much I enjoyed it and what a great job he was doing. I also mentioned I knew Pedro Pascal and he was having a blast working with Jon. Then, out of the blue, Jon asked if I’d want to be in it! It was amazing, of course.
He went on to say that the actor began explaining the project, mentioning the character Rotta. This would be his first voice acting role, as he hadn’t done any physical or stop-motion work before. He was thrilled to be part of the Star Wars universe, which he’d always loved, and especially excited that his daughters would be able to see the movie.
Andy White also shared that he recorded the voice for Rotta the Hutt over a year ago, but hasn’t seen any of the finished movie footage. He explained that he did some voice work, but Jon Favreau likely made some adjustments to it. “I did a couple of sessions, but I haven’t seen any of it,” White said.
