It seems I haven’t hung up my smuggler’s hat just yet! The voice behind a familiar character from Star Wars: The Clone Wars has confirmed that my fan-adored rogue is set to reappear in the Star Wars Universe, potentially before fans anticipated.
At San Diego Comic-Con 2025, while promoting Andreas Deja: 30 Years of Disney Villains, renowned voice actor Jim Cummings hinted at the return of Hondo Ohnaka to our screens. In an exclusive conversation with TopMob, Cummings teased fans, suggesting they should “keep their eyes peeled” as the cunning and comical Weequay pirate from Star Wars: The Clone Wars is set to make further appearances in Lucasfilm’s forthcoming Star Wars projects.
When asked if character Hondo might feature in the sequel to Lucasfilm’s animated series, The Clone Wars titled Maul: Shadow Lord, Jim Cummings hinted with a wink, “You’ll want to keep watching as Hondo still has more story to tell.” Later, he expressed his fondness for the charming scoundrel, stating, “He truly is one of my favorites.
He’s among my top choices due to his charming yet mischievous nature. He might appear trustworthy, but don’t be fooled… He is protective of Ezra and the younger ones, whom they call younglings. Rest assured, he won’t intentionally hurt anyone. However, I wouldn’t recommend playing cards with him as he could potentially outsmart you.
In the series The Clone Wars, Hondo Ohnaka encountered Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker after abducting Count Dooku. He also gained some foes, notably when Darth Maul aimed to command Hondo’s pirates. Fast forward to Star Wars Rebels, where Cummings described that he became a guardian for Ezra Bridger, proving himself as a friend despite his actions and loyalties sometimes being uncertain.
Which New Star Wars Project Will Feature Hondo Ohnaka?
Shadow Lord is an animated series that follows The Clone Wars, it appears that Lucasfilm’s planned 2026 series would be the ideal place to bring back Hondo. His humor could add a welcome dose of comedy in a Star Wars show centered around villains.
It’s important to point out that Cummings referred to Ezra Bridger, a character introduced in the animated series Ahsoka on Disney+ instead of The Clone Wars. Given that this character has a history with Ahsoka Tano and is set to appear again in Ahsoka Season 2, it’s possible that Hondo, who also has ties to Ahsoka Tano, might be planning his debut on Disney+ as well.
I can’t help but feel that Star Wars has paved the way for such an exciting possibility with Hondo Ohnaka’s character from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. He graces our presence in both animatronic form and on-screen, serving as the proprietor of Ohnaka Transport Solutions for the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run attraction. With this captivating performance, it seems entirely feasible to envision him showing up in Season 2 of Ahsoka, teaming up with Ezra now that Thrawn has made a comeback. What a thrilling thought!
Moving towards the year 2026, fans can anticipate gaining further insights into Star Wars’ future lineup, and it will be interesting to find out which Star Wars project might feature the return of Jim Cummings as the space pirate character.
