Early reviews for Star Trek: Starfleet Academy are overwhelmingly positive, based on previews of the first six episodes. Rachel Leishman of The Mary Sue praised the show, saying it captures the heart of what makes Star Trek so beloved – it’s enjoyable, fresh, and stays true to the franchise.

In a review for Polygon, Samantha Nelson praised Starfleet Academy as a strong addition to the Star Trek universe. She noted that the show successfully blends familiar characters with new storylines, allowing it to expand the Federation’s story beyond the eras of Captain Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard.

Finally, and called it “an expertly crafted blend of new and classic Star Trek.”
