There aren’t any new Star Trek shows coming in 2025, so fans will be rewatching older series on Paramount+ while they wait for Starfleet Academy to arrive in 2026. Many are also discussing their hopes for future shows, particularly wanting to see the story from Picard Season 3 continue in some way.
Currently, Paramount doesn’t seem interested in moving forward with the rumored “Star Trek: Legacy” spin-off. Despite this, fans and cast members are still hoping it happens. TrekMovie.com recently spoke with Todd Stashwick, a prominent actor from Season 3, to gauge his interest in returning, potentially through a holographic appearance. He explained what conditions would need to be met before he’d commit to a continuation of the Picard series.
How Todd Stashwick Feels About Returning To Star Trek Following Picard
Even though Captain Shaw died in Star Trek: Picard Season 3, the actor who played him is open to returning in future installments – perhaps as a holographic version of the character. He’s shared what it would take for him to reprise the role, and it mainly involves making sure the creative team behind the successful Season 3 is still involved.
I’d be thrilled to work on this project if it moves forward with the original cast – Jeri Ryan, Michelle Hurd, Ed Speleers, Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut, and Mica Burton. I’m even open to appearing as a hologram if it helps secure my benefits and allows me to contribute!
It’s noteworthy to learn the details of his requests, particularly his focus on reuniting actors who weren’t regulars on The Next Generation. Many will recall Jeri Ryan discussing a Captain Seven series offered by Paramount, which she declined, believing fans wouldn’t have enjoyed it. This raises the question: could the proposed series have left out some of the actors Todd Stashwick previously mentioned? It’s certainly something to consider.
Will A Star Trek: Picard Follow-Up Series Happen?
Currently, there are no plans for a continuation of the Star Trek: Picard series. Additionally, Terry Matalas, the showrunner, is now working on a Vision series for Marvel, and actor Todd Stashwick is involved in that project as well.

I really liked the third season of Star Trek: Picard, especially seeing the original Next Generation cast back together. However, I sympathize with the show’s creator having to explain the compromises they had to make during production.
Although a continuation isn’t likely at the moment, it’s not entirely off the table. When Star Trek: Picard finished, plans were already in place for future shows, making it difficult to add another series. Now, with only two shows currently being made – and one nearing its end – it seems more possible that the groundwork for a Legacy series could finally be laid.
There’s still a lot of excitement among Star Trek fans for continuing the story of Picard, just as there was when the show concluded in 2023. Many viewers are hoping the franchise will revisit the era of The Next Generation, as there aren’t currently any series set during that time. Whether or not this will happen remains to be seen, but it’s something fans have wanted since the original series finished.

Paramount+ offers streaming access to nearly all Star Trek content, with plans starting at $7.99 per month or $59.99 per year. You can choose between the Essential plan at $7.99/month and the ad-free Premium plan at $12.99/month. For the best value, consider an annual subscription to save money while enjoying your favorite shows and movies.
You can watch Star Trek: Picard on Paramount+. Recent comments from Todd Stashwick about possibly reprising his role as Shaw have me thinking it’s a good time to revisit Season 3 – I’m starting to forget how great it was!
