Star Trek Online First Contact Day 2026 event hands out free Sovereign-class variant ship

Cryptic Studios announced that the annual First Contact Day event in the online game Star Trek Online will take place from April 7th to May 7th, 2026. Players who participate will have a chance to earn a free starship. First Contact Day is a holiday within the Star Trek universe, celebrated around April 5th, and commemorates the historic first meeting between humans and Vulcans as depicted in the 1996 film Star Trek: First Contact.

During the First Contact Day event, players can earn the Noble-class Intel Battlecruiser, a new starship to play with. This ship is a version of the Sovereign-class, the same type as the U.S.S. Enterprise-E from Star Trek: First Contact and other Next Generation movies. Its design is an updated version of an early skin option for the Sovereign-class and was inspired by concept art created for a 2008 Game Informer feature. Uniquely, the Noble-class includes a console that lets players intentionally trigger a self-destruct sequence. While this can provide combat advantages, players must deactivate it before time runs out, or their ship will be destroyed!

For the first time, Cryptic is celebrating First Contact Day with an event where players can earn a playable starship as the main reward. In past years, the rewards were usually cosmetic items or special equipment. The way to participate remains the same: players complete daily themed activities to fill a progress bar and claim the grand prize. This year’s activities include building and launching models of the Phoenix warp ship in a historical recreation of the Bozeman, Montana event. Players can also battle in simulations of the Synth attack on Mars (from Star Trek: Picard Season 1) or the Battle of Wolf 359. Finally, there’s a short time-travel mission where players fight the Borg alongside Seven of Nine.

You can play Star Trek Online on computers, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The annual First Contact Day celebration will take place between April 7th and May 7th, 2026.
