The Berlin Film Festival was electrified on Saturday by starry encounters featuring Robert Pattinson and Jacob Elordi. Their presence generated buzz around their upcoming projects, “Mickey 17” and “The Narrow Road to the Deep North,” which are attracting attention for their high-profile status.
On Saturday, the highly anticipated sci-fi adventure film “Mickey 17” made its debut at the Berlinale, causing quite a stir as it became one of the most talked-about events so far. The spotlight has been shining brightly on director Bong Joon Ho, who is following up his Oscar-winning 2019 drama “Parasite”. Ramin Setoodeh and Elsa Keslassy reported on the excitement filling the room, with Berlin fest director Tricia Tuttle needing to halt a prolonged standing ovation to bring Bong Joon Ho and the lead actor onto the stage for a question-and-answer session.
At the premiere, Robert Pattinson, exuding a Batman-like aura in his all-black attire complete with a leather coat, made an early entrance. He graciously signed autographs and took numerous selfies with fans before entering the theater. The enthusiastic crowd outside called out his name repeatedly, treating him to a warm movie-star reception reminiscent of his heyday during the height of his ‘Twilight’ fame, as reported by Setoodeh and Keslassy.
This afternoon at a Berlinale press conference, I (as a cinema devotee) experienced an “ah-ha!” moment alongside other attendees. Robert Pattinson, during the Q&A session, discovered the source of inspiration for one of his characters in the movie “Mickey 17.
As a cinephile, I’ve come to a fascinating realization today. When asked about my inspiration, I found myself chuckling and explaining, “You know, I never quite grasped what I was up to.” During a previous interview, Bong mentioned that one of his ideas for the character 18 was Peter Stormare from ‘Fargo.’ It struck me then to emulate Steve Buscemi as 17. I guess it happened unintentionally, but only today did I fully comprehend this. I thought I was working on something else entirely.
Ellise Shafer, writing for EbMaster, delved straight into the main story as she reported on Elordi’s Berlinale appearance, where he shared insights about his role in the upcoming Australian miniseries “The Narrow Road to the Deep North.” In this production, Elordi portrays a medical officer caught up in World War II who was imprisoned by the Japanese.
The beard that caused a stir online during the actor’s service on the Marrakech Film Festival jury in December is now absent, but it seems it wasn’t without purpose. Sporting a monochrome attire and flaunting some chest hair, the star of ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Saltburn’ confidently displayed his sideburns on the red carpet, as reported by Shafer.
Previously, Elordi opened up about the production process of the period miniseries where he had to lose an appreciable amount of weight to convincingly portray a POW. “I believe there was something quite significant that transpired, as it wasn’t entirely agonizing,” he shared. “There was a tranquility that seemed to envelop us all.
