“St. Denis Medical” is scrubbing up for Season 2.
The popular hospital-based sitcom on NBC has been granted a second season even before completing its initial season. This show is among NBC’s top-rated series for the 2024-2025 season, boasting a total viewership of 21.4 million so far.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’ve just watched “St. Denis Medical,” a witty mockumentary that takes us behind the scenes of an underfunded, understaffed hospital in Oregon. Reminiscent of “The Office,” “Parks and Recreation,” and the latest hit “Abbott Elementary,” this series offers a unique blend of humor and heartfelt moments as it chronicles the daily struggles and triumphs of dedicated medical professionals. They juggle their commitment to healing patients with preserving their own mental well-being, making for an engaging and relatable watch. The star-studded cast includes Wendi McLendon-Covey, David Alan Grier, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, Mekki Leeper, and Kaliko Kauahi, each delivering compelling performances that bring this unique world to life.
St. Denis Medical has been nominated for two Critics’ Choice Awards: one for the category of Best Comedy Series, and another for Best Actor in a Comedy Series, recognizing Grier’s performance. Additionally, Grier is also nominated for an NAACP Image Award.
The TV show “St. Denis Medical” is overseen by Executive Producers Eric Ledgin and Justin Spitzer, who are also the writers. Simon Heuer, Ruben Fleischer, Bridget Kyle, and Vicky Luu are additional Executive Producers. This series is jointly produced by Universal Television and the Spitzer Holding Company.
Alison Herman, our main TV critic at EbMaster, praised “St. Denis Medical” as a successful workplace comedy. In her review, she noted that the show is realistic about the challenges its characters encounter, yet effectively uses these hurdles to create humor. She particularly commended McLendon-Covey for her exceptional performance as Joyce, a character who exudes an infectious optimism and consistently motivates her team to tackle structural issues with a positive outlook.
Currently, “St. Denis Medical” is being broadcast for the first time, with new episodes premiering every Tuesday at 8 p.m. on NBC. The following day, you can also catch up on the episode on Peacock.
