The TV show, labeled as an action-drama, is based on the manga “Ikusagami” by Shogo Imamura. Similar to Squid Game, Last Samurai Standing features more than a hundred contestants eager to fight each other for an astonishing amount of money.

This Netflix series has a historical bend, set towards the closing stages of the Edo era.

In the late 1800s, during Japan’s Meiji era, our story unfolds within the serene surroundings of the Tenryuji Temple in the historic city of Kyoto: “Last Samurai Alive.

As dusk approaches, a group of 292 talented warriors assemble, drawn by the allure of a colossal reward worth 100 billion yen. In this gathering is our main character, Shujiro Saga (played by Junichi Okada), who steps into this perilous contest with a single purpose: to rescue his unwell wife and child.

In simpler terms, Director Michihito Fujii expressed that they’re developing a distinct world with multiple characters. They feel it’s their duty to present something original and groundbreaking. He is thrilled about the chance to shape an extraordinary narrative, cast, and visuals into a production intended for both Japanese and global audiences.

Last Samurai Standing stars Junichi Okada, who also produces and choreographs the series.
