In the year 2024, “Squid Game” became the series that garnered the highest number of views within a week, accumulating a total of 4.9 billion viewing minutes from December 23rd to December 29th, as reported by Nielsen.
The second season of the popular Korean deathmatch series was released on Netflix on December 26th. Consequently, the impressive viewership numbers encompass both those who were catching up on the initial season and those binge-watching the new one. Over a four-day period from December 26th to December 29th, approximately 4 billion minutes of “Squid Game” Season 2 were watched. It’s worth noting that viewership has been consistently increasing throughout 2025.
During the week of December 23rd to 29th, “Squid Game” surpassed all other series by more than doubling the viewership of the second-most-popular show. However, there were seven additional movies and shows that accumulated over a billion minutes watched during this period. The Netflix drama “Virgin River,” which spans 64 episodes, amassed an impressive 2.2 billion minutes viewed, while Dwayne Johnson’s Christmas movie “Red One” garnered 1.8 billion and the TSA thriller “Carry-On” from Netflix achieved 1.5 billion. Other titles that surpassed a billion minutes watched include “The Six Triple Eight,” “Bluey,” “Landman,” and “The Equalizer.”
In the past, we shared the news that “Squid Game” Season 2 ranked as Netflix’s third most-watched TV season, following only its own first season (265 million) and “Wednesday” (252 million). Just four days after its debut on December 26th, “Squid Game” Season 2 had already garnered a record-breaking 68 million views in that short span of time, making it Netflix’s biggest TV debut ever. By the seventh day, it had accumulated a total of 126.2 million views over an eleven-day period, surpassing any other series on Netflix in terms of viewership within such a short timeframe. It’s no surprise that the show remained at the top of the non-English TV top 10 list for another week, with its first season reappearing at No. 3.
