As a seasoned gamer with decades of virtual bloodshed under my belt, I must admit that the death scenes in Squid Game Season 2 were as intense and gripping as any high-stakes video game I’ve ever played. The demise of one of the creator’s favorite characters, Thanos (T.O.P.), was particularly poignant, and it seemed like the perfect time for his character arc to conclude.
In a hypothetical scenario where I were to meet my end in Squid Game’s challenges, I’d prefer a swift, painless bullet to the head over the Glass Bridge plunge or any of the other gruesome fates that befall the contestants. But let’s face it, who among us would choose death by Tug-of-War or being beaten senseless in the titular game?
The brutal brawl in the men’s bathroom, which claimed Thanos’ life, was a testament to the mounting tension among the remaining contestants. The way he went out, strangled and stabbed with a fork, was a fitting end for such a complex character. It felt as if he was still lurking in the shadows of Season 2, influencing the plot even after his demise.
Kudos to Hwang Dong-hyuk for taking the brave decision to write Thanos off the show. I can only imagine the courage it took for actor Choi Seung-hyun, who portrayed Thanos despite a nine-year hiatus due to a marijuana scandal, to return to the limelight and tackle such a challenging role. His performance was impressive, and as a director, Hwang Dong-hyuk was undoubtedly satisfied with his work.
In the spirit of Squid Game’s dark humor, I can’t help but wonder if Thanos is now playing video games in the afterlife – maybe even the original Squid Game – and plotting his revenge against the players who sent him to his digital demise. But for now, we’ll just have to wait and see what Season 3 brings!
As a long-time fan of Korean dramas who has seen my fair share of intense scenes, I can confidently say that Squid Game Season 2 is shaping up to be a rollercoaster ride of emotions. While it’s no secret that numerous characters meet their untimely demise in this series, one particular death stands out as particularly impactful. It involves the passing of one of the creator’s favorite characters, and I can only imagine the depth of emotion poured into crafting such a powerful moment. So buckle up, fellow viewers, because it looks like we’re in for a wild ride!
If you were to meet your end in one of the games from Squid Game, how would you prefer it to happen? The most peaceful option might be a quick and painless shot to the head – unless you’d rather take the risk of falling from the Glass Bridge, being crushed in Tug-of-War, or getting brutally defeated in the main game.
In the second season, similar to the first, not every player is eliminated throughout the competition. The tension amongst the surviving players escalates dramatically, culminating in a violent, intense fight that takes place in the male restroom.
Several characters meet their end, among them a character who’s been highly debated within the series – yet, it felt “appropriate” for this point in the storyline.
Why Thanos died in Squid Game Season 2
In the final episode of Squid Game Season 2, Player 333, or Lee Myung-gi, who is also recognized as MG Coin, ultimately takes Thanos’ life.
After casting his vote to halt the games, Myung-gi is met by a threat from an unidentified individual, who warns that one of his fingers will be severed and handed over to Player 222 (Kim Jun-hee). A physical altercation ensues, culminating in Thanos being strangled by Myung-gi. However, in the heat of the fight, Myung-gi manages to stab Thanos with a fork, ultimately resulting in his demise due to the wound.
In the finale of Season 2, one of its most detestable yet endearing antagonists met a grim fate, and as per Hwang Dong-hyuk, there was simply no alternative solution.
Regarding Thanos, I share your fondness for him as well. I think it was appropriate to bid him farewell at that point in time, he conveyed to THR.
Admittedly, I believe his passing was unexpected. It was incredibly intense, a fitting moment for him to depart at that juncture. By the end of the story, particularly in the third season, it seems as though he’s still present in some ways due to the impact he has on the plotline.
Squid Game creator says Thanos actor was ‘brave’
Apart from commending Choi Seung-hyun, better known as the star Hwang, for his depiction of Thanos, a troubled rapper struggling with drug addiction, it’s noteworthy that this talented actor had previously faced legal consequences – serving a 10-month prison sentence and completing a two-year mandatory military service due to marijuana possession.
Seung-hyun, an actor, has been away from the Korean film industry for nearly a decade due to a marijuana scandal. Now, he’s back with a new project, marking his return after a significant absence. Notably, in this role, he plays a rapper character who is also depicted as a drug user,” Hwang explained to People.
It strikes me as incredibly brave for him to play a character that bears many resemblances to his own less admirable traits, and I believe he demonstrated great bravery in accepting that challenging role.
After such a prolonged absence, let me express that, as a director, his performance was nothing short of remarkable. I am genuinely pleased with how he developed the character.
In the interim, let’s delve into why we might expect Thanos to speak English in “Squid Game” Season 2, any insights on “Squid Game” Season 3, and our speculations for the upcoming third installment.
