Could a new movie adaptation of Final Fantasy VII ever happen? Although no formal plans have been made yet, the series’ producer, Yoshinori Kitase, has mentioned in a recent interview that he is mindful of the game’s popularity in Hollywood.

Kitase shared with Danny Pena that he’s both familiar with and has knowledge of numerous Hollywood directors and actors who have participated in Final Fantasy VII, and it’s well-known among creators for its esteem.

Kitase mentioned: “I’ve been noticing that many creators are passionately drawn to this property, which is the Final Fantasy 7 universe. And honestly, I’d be thrilled if something creative from these talented individuals materialized in the form of a movie or some other visually stunning project.

Indeed, he clarified that no discussions regarding the transformation of Final Fantasy VII into a Hollywood film have taken place yet.

Previously, Square Enix has already introduced a movie adaptation of Final Fantasy VII, which was the 2005 anime titled “Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.” This film, helmed by accomplished artist Tetsuya Nomura, is a straight-to-DVD production that follows the storyline a couple of years after the game’s events.

Previously, actor Robert Pattinson expressed that Final Fantasy VII is among his beloved video games, highlighting the emotional impact it had on him to the point of causing tears. Additionally, he spoke about finding himself entangled in a romantic predicament involving both Aeris and Tifa, symbolizing a romantic triangle.

Currently, there’s no ongoing development for a new Final Fantasy VII film, but Hollywood continues to explore various adaptations. For instance, Sony recently unveiled plans for Helldivers and Horizon: Zero Dawn movies, with Until Dawn hitting theaters in April, and a Minecraft movie set to debut around the same time.

From a gamer’s perspective, I’m super stoked about the latest addition to the epic saga that is Final Fantasy VII – the Rebirth! It’s a natural progression of the game we all loved from 2020, which was a remake of the original. Guess what? They’re already working on another one in this Remake series, making us fans eagerly wait for more!
