TikTok personalities SpudBrothers report their family has been threatened following a public disagreement with a British food company called The Spud Father. The dispute centers around who has the right to use a name related to potatoes.
The Spud Father shared on Facebook that SpudBrothers, the popular TikTok duo, threatened to sue them over their name. They claim SpudBrothers trademarked several words related to potatoes and are trying to stop The Spud Father from using the name. The business said the situation has been very upsetting and stressful.
The Spud Father questioned why a competitor filed for a trademark so quickly after learning about their business. “It seems they trademarked the name as soon as they found out we were opening,” the business explained. “They launched their express store in November 2024, so why didn’t they trademark it then? The timing suggests they filed the trademark specifically because we announced our opening and our plans to expand to Portsmouth.”
SpudBrothers address viral potato trademark drama
In a TikTok video responding to the criticism, SpudBrothers stated they hadn’t taken any legal steps and explained that the conflict had grown to the point where their family was receiving harassment.
One of the brothers explained that they received threats against their three-year-old daughter and even threats to destroy their vehicle. Despite this, they stated they have no intention of filing a lawsuit; that’s simply not their approach.
I was so relieved to hear the story behind the ‘SpudFather’ trademark! Apparently, the creators applied for it way back in June 2025, and it was officially registered a few months later in September. They had a bit of a scare though – another company tried to trademark the same name! Luckily, their lawyers stepped in and sent a letter through the UK’s Intellectual Property Office to clear things up. They explained it’s really important to protect the brand they’ve worked so hard on, and honestly, the name is super touching – it’s inspired by their dad, who’s battled cancer and has been known as ‘The Spud Father’ online for ages. It makes the whole thing even more special!
The disagreement has sparked a lot of debate online, and many fans are urging everyone to take it easy, as both sides involved are clearly upset. It doesn’t seem like either side plans to take any further action.
