Okay, so Spotify’s letting parents have even more control over what their kids listen to! They’ve just rolled out these ‘managed accounts’ to seven more countries, which basically means parents can decide what music and podcasts their younger listeners can access. It’s cool – gives them a bit more peace of mind, and me, as a gamer who sometimes shares accounts, it’s good to know there are options for keeping things appropriate.
After a successful trial in ten different areas, our new feature is now live in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands. This feature introduces managed accounts, which are specifically for young listeners under 13. These accounts let kids discover music on their own, but give parents control over what they can access through the Family Plan settings.
This feature is only available for Premium Family members and provides a safe, fun experience for kids with personalized playlists, recommendations, and popular features like Daylist and Discover Weekly.
Parents can block “explicit” songs and artists on Spotify
Managed accounts offer features to help parents control what their children see and do. These include a filter for explicit content, the ability to block certain artists or songs, and the option to hide short video features like Canvas. Also, to ensure a safe experience, age-restricted features like messaging aren’t available on these accounts.

Spotify explains that this feature lets families share music together without affecting individual listening stats – like those used for the yearly Wrapped summaries – and helps kids discover what they like.
Parents can set up an account for a child under 13 through their Family Plan settings. They should choose “Add a listener aged under 13” and then follow the on-screen instructions.
Spotify launched a direct messaging feature in August, allowing users to easily share their favorite music, podcasts, and playlists with friends on the app.
