Spotify is growing its publishing efforts and will now sell physical books directly through its app, made possible by a new collaboration.
Starting in Spring 2026, Spotify will let its Premium members in the US and UK buy physical books – both hardcover and paperback – through a partnership with Bookshop.org. This expands Spotify’s offerings beyond audio, following their entry into audiobooks in 2022.
Bookshop.org will control pricing, stock levels, and shipping for books bought through Spotify. Spotify will earn a commission on each sale made within its app, though the exact amount hasn’t been revealed.
This new launch creates another option for book buyers, joining companies like Amazon – which owns Audible and continues to be the biggest online bookstore in the United States.
“We want to expand the audience for books,” said Owen Smith, Spotify’s global head of audiobooks.
How Spotify and Bookshop.org will handle physical book sales
Spotify started selling audiobooks directly to US customers in September 2022. In September 2023, they launched a new benefit for Premium subscribers in certain countries: 15 hours of audiobook listening each month, with the ability to buy more hours if needed.
Publishers are pleased with Spotify’s move into audiobooks. News Corp reported that HarperCollins, one of its publishing divisions, saw an increase in audiobook sales thanks to Spotify.
According to Chantal Restivo-Alessi, HarperCollins Publishers’ chief digital officer and international CEO, the company is growing its audience and attracting more young readers.

Spotify is introducing a feature called Page Match that lets you seamlessly switch between reading a physical book or ebook and listening to the audiobook version. Simply scan a page with your device, and Spotify will automatically open the audiobook to the same spot.
According to Smith, over 50% of Spotify Premium subscribers are now listening to audiobooks. He explained this is a way to reach people on platforms they already use.
Audiobook sales are still increasing, while print book sales remain stable. Through November 2025, digital audiobook revenue reached almost $1 billion, a 2.4 percent increase compared to the previous year, according to the Association of American Publishers.
By contrast, US print book sales in 2025 were flat, according to tracking firm Circana BookScan.
According to Andy Hunter, the founder and CEO of Bookshop.org, people are increasingly choosing to own books in various forms, like both physical copies and ebooks.
“They read at night and then listen on the way to work in their car or subway,” he remarked.
Spotify hasn’t revealed how many CDs or vinyl records will be available to buy when the service launches, or which record labels will be involved this spring.
