Splitgate Studio Reacts To Player Numbers: “Steam Charts Don’t Measure Fun”

The creators of Splitgate, 1047 Games, have responded to player feedback about the recent launch of Splitgate: Arena Reloaded. The game launched in December 2025, but hasn’t attracted as many players on Steam as previous versions, leading some to question whether it can remain online long-term.

I saw the developer recently address all the talk about player numbers on Steam, and it really resonated with me. They pointed out that Steam charts don’t actually tell you how fun a game is! It’s just a snapshot – one number, on Steam only, at a single point in time. They explained that it doesn’t give you the whole story, like what it’s actually like to play, or how amazing the community is that’s been working to make Arena Reloaded even better. It’s a good reminder that numbers aren’t everything!

Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, a revamped version of Splitgate 2, launched on December 17th and initially attracted around 2,300 players on Steam. Over the last day, the game’s peak concurrent player count on Steam reached 952.

Splitgate 2 recently saw its highest player count – 25,785 at the same time – when its battle royale mode was released in early June. The first Splitgate game reached a peak of 67,724 concurrent players back in August 2021.

1047 Games is inviting players to try Spligate: Arena Reloaded, stating that the game is currently playing better than ever and they’d appreciate feedback.

The game is getting a new Arena Royale mode, which is a battle royale experience, in a future update.

As a big fan, I’ve been checking to see how Arena Reloaded is doing, but it’s tough because Steam is the only platform where we can actually see how many people are playing. PlayStation and Xbox keep that info private. Honestly, even on Steam, it’s not super surprising that it’s a bit of a struggle. The numbers usually show people are curious and will give new games a shot, but they almost always go back to the games they already love. It’s a tough market!

Wow, the last year has been pretty wild for Splitgate. Things got a bit rocky when someone from 1047 Games showed up at Summer Game Fest wearing a “Make FPS Great Again” hat – that caused a lot of talk online. Then, a lot of us felt the in-game purchases were way too expensive. It got even tougher when the studio had to let people go, and even the founders stopped taking salaries. And honestly, it was a surprise when Splitgate 2 went back to being a beta in July before finally re-launching in December. It’s been a rollercoaster, but I’m still hoping for the best!
