Next month, fans can see Sam Fisher, the iconic character from Splinter Cell, return in a new animated series on Netflix called Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. The show will tell an original story, not based on any of the games, but the latest trailer hints that Sam will face an enemy connected to his history.
The latest trailer for the game Deathwatch briefly showed a gravestone belonging to Douglas Shetland. He was a key character in the games Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory, and a close friend of Sam Fisher. However, Douglas betrayed his country, forcing Sam to make the difficult decision to kill him.
Okay, so the trailer starts by showing the last bits of Doug’s life, then cuts to his grave. It’s looking like Sam’s past choices are really coming back to bite him now. Apparently, Doug’s daughter, Diana Shetland, is now running Xanadu – the company behind this new mess we’re dealing with. Talk about complicated!
Liev Schreiber will be the new voice of Sam in the series. While Michael Ironside has famously voiced Sam in most of the Splinter Cell games, Eric Johnson took on the role in the latest installment, Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Joining the cast are Kirby Howell-Baptiste (from The Sandman) as a new agent named Zinnia McKenna, Janet Varney as Anna “Grim” Grímsdóttir, and Joel Oulette as Thunder.
Derek Kolstad, a key creative force behind the *John Wick* franchise, is leading the writing and production of *Splinter Cell: Deathwatch*. The animation is a collaboration between Sun Creature Studio and Fost. Netflix will release the series on October 14th.
A remake of the classic game Splinter Cell is currently in the works, but we haven’t received many updates about it since it was first announced in 2022. More recently, in 2024, Ubisoft added Steam achievements to Splinter Cell: Blacklist, a game originally released in 2013.
