As a huge Spider-Man fan, I’ve always found it really strange that he wasn’t in either Thunderbolts or the first season of Daredevil: Born Again. Both shows took place in New York City, dealing with pretty grounded, street-level problems, and it’s been four years since Spider-Man: No Way Home where Peter Parker’s been actively swinging around the city! It just felt like a missed opportunity, honestly.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Takes Place After Daredevil: Born Again Season 2
It’s now official that the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day happen after Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, but a careful look at the movie’s trailer already hinted at this. The trailer shows MJ and Ned watching a news report of Spider-Man receiving a key to the city. This key likely holds significant importance in the film, and the celebratory event itself wouldn’t be happening if Wilson Fisk were still mayor or if vigilantes were still considered criminals.
This pretty much confirms that Wilson Fisk will lose power by the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2. While it wasn’t a huge surprise, considering Daredevil and Jessica Jones are leading a revolt, it’s strange that the trailer might have revealed this major plot point before the season even begins.
Explaining everything that’s been happening in New York City will take a lot of setup for the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day story. The trailer could have at least avoided revealing all of that information beforehand. Holding back those details would have made the movie much more rewarding, especially for viewers who just finished Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.
Spider-Man & Daredevil Are More Connected Than You Think
Additionally, the Punisher’s appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day hints he won’t be held by the AVTF for very long. This was further confirmed by a scene after the credits of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 and an upcoming One-Shot Special featuring the Punisher. Despite this, it’s still surprising to see a trailer for a Spider-Man movie reveal so quickly that his capture wouldn’t last.
The upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again might have some unexpected twists. It’s interesting that The Hand was also present in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day storyline, and some fans believe Spider-Man could be helping Daredevil escape from prison – and protecting him from The Hand while he’s inside. If Daredevil is organizing a rebellion against the Kingpin, and that leads to Fisk’s arrest, it’s possible The Hand isn’t targeting Daredevil at all, but actually planning to assassinate Kingpin while he’s in prison.
Daredevil might play a significant role in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day story, and events in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again could foreshadow what happens. The Punisher will appear in at least two scenes in the movie—once during a daytime chase with a tank, and again at night—and it seems his part in Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be more than just a quick appearance.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 31, 2026.
